Yeah I'm not criticising him obviously (having never seen him).

He's big enough now that he's had people like Bernie Sanders and Robert Downey Jr. on. I still can't get my head around people like that having been on the same podcast as a bunch of alien hunters, stoners and Alex Jones.
I hear you... but I actually like the way you lump a presidential candidate and a druggie actor together.

Yeah that was lame sorry.
OK so the interest lies in a Tae-Kwondo guy turning into a DMT guy and talking about everything in-between with an open (gormless) mind?

Trying to work out modern life without worrying too much about appearances. Assuming he's intelligent enough to get it and thus trusting his instincts.

I was listening to an episode of Brogan today and it occurred to me that if he WAS actually a funny comedian then the podcast wouldn't work as it does. Because his humour would be dominating the proceedings. Luckily he is totally unfunny, which means that when he has interesting guests on they get to talk a lot.

All the things you can pour your time and energy into and you choose... muscles?

I used to be of the same mind, but there are a lot of reasons to build muscle mass that have nothing to do with peacocking

Resistance to disease and injury
Better insulin resistance and metabolic condition
Lower all-cause mortality
Faster recovery from diseases
That lightness and fleetness of foot you mentioned earlier
All of this feeds forward to mental health
Everything is just easier when you're stronger

And a man of your advanced yers should understand building muscle slows ageing and leaves you less likely to be an impotent, bent and bedbound wreck past your seventies.

2000s and 2010s was the revenge of the nerds era, 2020s onwards, for good or ill, will be the revenge of the chads.

Darned cockwombles.

As with everything it's a question of balance vs addiction. A little bit of weights done regularly is beneficial for health, both physical and mental. Addiction is never beneficial for anyone or anything.

edit: ok, i see that point has already been done. still a good one tho.

And make sure you do triceps stretches so you can actually reach your back. It's helpful.

I go to a university gym because it's convenient, and it is kind of scary seeing 20 year olds in the gym on a Saturday or Sunday morning, rather than lying unconscious in a bus shelter or something more attuned to good health. They'll just end up doing that in their 40s.

The muscles thing does appeal to me a bit - not enough to make it central to my life but it has an appeal. Would hazard a guess that this manipulation of the self and image is a more American thing. The optimistic vision of the mutable self. In Britain it runs into our ingrained cynicism and concerns about anyone getting above their station, literally "too big for their boots"

When I was working out, was out with a friend and said while I was at the bar, he looked round and thought "fuck me, he's a big cunt.... oh, it's Dan".
