My exercise criteria is 'did I sweat' and if I did I dont think about further. Im privileged to be naturally skinny though. My routine is just shooting hoops and making sure Im jogging around while I do it,

but even so there are things our bodies are more fitted for than other things

I'm the wrong shape to do Olympic weights. Long levers, hard to control that barbell when it gets in motion, doesn't mean I didn't have a great time doing it. It's better for people with more compact frames. I wasn't especially well co-orodinated before I did martial arts but doing so led to loads of improvement and again, I loved it.

The real quandary is the balance of training with lifestyle factors. Family life, work etc. That's why most of of the instragram athletes you see are in their 20s. Lockdown has been a bit of gift to me in this regard. Been doing a 90m workout 5 days a week, which I would never have managed previously. My problem is how I'm going to maintain the gains in fitness in reduced form when/if lockdown ever ends.

Ido Portal is great for incorporating strength and mobility exercises in a natural way, not sure if feel comfortable doing them in a park though. hes why Connor McGregor does those weird ape walks into the ring, totally against traditional gym strength training. Big compound lifts and things create strength in a lot of different muscle areas but your still only training your brain to use those muscles in very specific ways

I met a few people who'd weighed out about £800 to do a weekend workshop with Ido. Sounds totally fascinating though I'd imagine might be very hard to use his training methods outside of that context?

the most interesting thing i've seen anyone say about Connor was the artist who did a mural of him for his old gym. he said he's the only person he's ever met that projects pure masculine energy.

Be interested to know if he's ever come up with a regime or popularisation of his techniques, outside of the workshop context. I guess there's no economic imperative to do so.

I'd love to be stripped to the waist looking like that, standing in the open air, a compact virile animal.

There's some stuff here but he starts off with a handstand which is going to be a bit challenging for most people.
