God in the pavements

woops

is not like other people
Woops was homeless for a bit and his eye is pavement focussed. He finds Oyster cards and cash etc all the time.

“There was a beauty in the trash of the alleys which I had never noticed before; my vision seemed sharpened, rather than impaired. As I walked along it seemed to me that the flattened beer cans and papers and weeds and junk mail had been arranged by the wind into patterns; these patterns, when I scrutinized them, lay distributed so as to comprise a visual language. ”

One time I met this sweet hearted american hippy in London back when shrooms were legal. We spent a lovely afternoon on about an 8th each in Holland park. At one point we sat on the grass and I noticed both of her shoes had big golf ball sized holes at the balls of her feet, and she wasn't wearing any socks. I asked her why and she said it was like having an extra sense. She loved feeling all the textures of different places as she walked around.

Yeah I've read about this recently (possibly on here?), how we do ourselves an injustice wearing shoes, cos the soles of our feet have loads of sensitive bits that tell us alot about our environment, like subtle changes of wetness will warn of rain and things like that. I think that if you go barefoot, you quickly develop a callus on the sole so it's not that dangerous either.

It feels similar to me to the thing of wearing headphones. I have a friend who never wears them when out and about cos he wants to hear what people are saying (he makes films and loves hearing snippets of conversation). I never used to use headphones but do all the time now...

I never leave home without them.

A lot of hippies, hipsters and alternative types have been going around completely barefoot in Berlin in recent years. To me, it looks very poseur. To make a statement. Something about it being her private secret made it so much cooler.

Yeah it's a difficult line to tread in the city (no pun intended!) Cos it's obviously a huge signifier. I like going on holiday to beachy places and going barefoot.

i like that the Boyle Family collective who did this whole amazing minimalist show of road/pavement surfaces at the Hayward in the 80's were originally pioneers of wild psychedelic visuals at Hendrix gigs

This one is like a wave or a swan. Or head of a serpent emerging from a mountain range. Huddersfield, outside the train station, at night:
