Shub-Niggurath, Please
I think that some people think it's a hoax, but plenty of them don't, they just wanna be allowed to take their chances - basically they believe in rugged individualism and they think it's completely wrong that anyone should be MADE to do anything for the good of someone else, or even multiple someone elses Probably Ayn Rand's fault. Or is that positive vs negative freedom? I always get confused with that one.
And yet per-person federal government spending is, in general, higher in 'red' states than in 'blue' ones.

Yep, and now they're bellyaching about supporting the blue states suffering under corona... despite the fact that for the rest of the time California and NY generate more income than all of them put together (I mean I just made that stat up but it's probably true).

a cynic might say that's even part of the plan
I don't think that you'd have to be that cynical... I just like that the monster that they've created might get out of control and turn on them. Not sure though. That's one thing that Trump does play amazingly well, I've seen increasing numbers of libertarians calling it the "dem lockdown" even though Trump is the president and he hasn't actually (as far as I know) demanded that governors relax controls, but he has expressed positive feelings towards some of the protesters and overall has done a pretty good of both having and eating his cake - on that particular issue at least.

What I don'tget with all these people demanding their liberty... do they think it's a kind of power grab with big government trying to lock them down forever? Cos all the evidence from around the world suggests that every other country has relaxed their lockdown the second they believed (rightly or wrongly) that they had things under control. The quickest way to get things open is to lockdown properly and kill the virus.
Or do they just believe it is wrong under any circumstances for anyone to order someone to do sonething, even if it's to help lots of people? Basically - as I saw someone say the other day - the kind of people who, if they'd been in the blitz, would have said "Fuck you I'll leave my lights on and play music all night if I like"

Dark humour is one of the few things we still do well in the UK.
Yesterday I had to drive somewhere into Lisbon and it did feel a huge relief not thinking that I could be stopped and forced to justify the journey. Funny how that tiny bit of extra freedom feels like such a relief.

I thought it was Pence's assistant, Miller's wife. Or is this another other one?
yeah, Katie miller, pence's spokesperson and recently married to Steven miller, tested positive...but additional positives for Ivanka's assistant and a valet who served trump at dinner. which makes you think: how can businesses across the country reopen safely when the virus is still spreading within the White House, where everyone is tested all the time and (you'd imagine) every available precaution is taken?

sadly, as a friend said, trump has cockroach DNA.

WashYourHands - I must own up, I stole the thing about eggs up the bum and put it on twitter... I only have 20 followers or something and yet that pic got over one hundred likes (and counting). So, credit where credit due I suppose.

People were wondering about the effects of the restrictions and stuff on doggers. I actually got sent two different things relevant to them today - in short, it looks as though it's going to be all right.

New guidance released to Trump administration employees will require them to wear masks when inside the West Wing, according to an internal memo released on Monday and obtained by The New York Times.

"As an additional layer of protection, we are requiring everyone who enters the West Wing to wear a mask or face covering," read the memo, which was distributed to staff members through the White House management office.

The new guidance is an abrupt establishment of a policy after two aides working near the president -- a military valet and Katie Miller, the vice president's spokeswoman -- tested positive for the virus last week.

For weeks, President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence have downplayed the need to wear masks, an attitude that had trickled down to staffers at lower ranks. The new rules are not expected to apply to Mr. Trump or Mr. Pence.
fingers crossed this sucker is as highly contagious as they say!

Greece - dysfunctional, debt-ridden, basket-case Greece - has now lifted its lockdown after a death toll of just 150. Scale that rate up to the UK's population and it's still under a thousand.

If Boris Johnson still has a net positive approval rating when the dust has settled from all of this, I'll be strongly tempted to just accept that England is now a one-party state, cancel my Labour membership and try not to think or talk about politics ever again.

It would be noble to stand & fight, dig in, consolidate, see what the Tory establishment can conjure next, intentionally or otherwise. However, the complacency, hubris & greed might be a final personal tipping point in emigrating. Fortunate to have options, disregarded for too long because it's home & these cunts win if you walk.

It's more like the 80's nadir than ever & now this? NHS frontline staff have been abused as an expendable treatment option while critical care field hospitals were set up. Now those units are in place, lockdown is eased. Then you remember the hospital in Liverpool (Carillion?) that was sat empty for aeons due to public-pvt scams you can only wonder at the spell that seems to have been cast over large sections of Britain today.

If Covid doesn't take the right scalps institutionally, nothing will.

So today in Portugal restaurants can open (with certain restrictions of course) - not sure how it will work out obviously but it feels significant.

?What did you do during the Great Corona War of 2020, Dad??

- ?While those rona shells fell, we grew our hair & watched tv for days. Endless days & endless nights. Every minute we stayed in those rooms, we got weaker, and every minute rona squatted in the bush, he got stronger?.
