Not quite sure what u mean by stronger. We're probably fucked, unemployment was sky high here anyway and its hard having your own business here. Then thetes the loss of tourism...

I will say that people seemed to accept the conditions more easily than you might imagine and mostly stuck to the rules. But its just an impression. What do I know really? I was cooped up for two months!

I do agree with this distinction but think it is more appropriately made between status gained and status gifted: had Boris been an average student, he would never have got into Balliol - where he may well have studied alongside nascent professors of epidemiology (some of whom have been stunningly wrong in their modelling efforts).

Oh come on, the guy went to Eton. Kids there are prepped for this life like hothouse flowers - since well before they even get to Eton, in fact. The idea that someone from that background must be some sort of giga-brain to have got into Oxford is shockingly naive.

And if you want to talk about

No need to apologise. There is some stuff you can claim but to be honest I don't fully understand how it all works. Spanish bureaucracy is a nightmare though

You do need to be a reasonably clever boy to get into Eton (nowadays top 5% or so) and even cleverer to get into Oxford (which has as many giga-brains as one would expect - not that many); prepping only gets you so far (especially as most of the competition is also prepping). I think he's clearly pretty bright but, yes, he has character deficiencies which make him something less than the oracle of truth (which was my main contention).

Oh, hang on, he was a King's Scholar at Eton - that's no mean feat.
