Fook. What about your brother? My sister works in a care home and is being tested every week. Clear so far but there's been an outbreak so everyone's very nervous.

The idea that antibodies disappear and you get it again is a bit misleading really. It's the t-cell response that generates the antibody reaction and as a rule that doesn't tend to ebb away as such.

It's weird the way this has already been through the media cycle and its back again?
You've got cases of people getting reinfected as well though, don't forget, although I don't know how common that is.

I want to know when slack turned into this sensible grown up authority figure in command of all the facts. He's like a government minister confident of being thoroughly briefed. Puts the rest of us to shame. He's read all the papers. He's not hysterical like Tea or a right wing conspiracy loon like biscuits. I'd vote for him.

And if the Democrats end up winning next week, the GOP can spend the next four years saying "Look how shit everything is now the Dems are in charge!" snd people will fall for it once again.

not necessarily. Obama inherited a financial crisis and the economy was pretty shit for a lot of his first term, and he was reelected.

I was talking in general tbh. Seems to me the pattern is that the right make a huge mess, balloon the debt etc, the other party have to clean it up then the right spend the whole time blaming them for how shit everything is before getting back in and wrecking it all again. Same thing with privatisation. Something goes private, gets run into the ground, it gets nationalised then goes private again once it's profitable. Rinse. Repeat.

maybe some small countries like New Zealand or something can run a decent, efficient government but it's just not possible for large countries. just too much tribalism, lack of interest in bipartisan support.

I was just speculating, based on how they handled covid. is their government relatively efficient or the same bullshit as other countries?

I dunno if it's more efficient necessarily but they avoid the excesses of the other anglosphere countries for various reasons. They don't have that obdurate reactionary rump that defines politics in Britain and the US and Australia and they don't have any really bad influences media wise, again in stark contrast to the rest of us.

Looks like this weekend we got total lockdown in that you can't drive from one borough to another - the idea being to stop people going to parties and stuff for Halloween. They did that at Easter too to stop people gong to visit their families and so on and spreading the virus all over... but do people travel for Halloween?
Also they've announced a new policy - that masks musk be worn when outside now at all times, and this policy is gonna stay in place for the next THREE MONTHS - how can they make rules so far ahead with certainty?

I had Covid in late September.
TOTAL loss of sense and smell, mild fever.
No cough or sore throat.
Taste and smell returning now.
Very disconcerting - - but I got away with it.
