For one, i cannot believe the WHO anymore then i can believe the Olympic Committed or ( fill the blank ).
These structures are old and in the way, still blowing out hot air, hard to trust and possibly ( charitable here ) corrupt.
Got one eye on Tokyo and it's er , Olympics.
I do believe Otomo's old prediction from AKIRA

All about masks in the context of COVID-19

Masks should be used as part of a comprehensive strategy of measures to suppress transmission and save lives; the use of a mask alone is not sufficient to provide an adequate level of protection against COVID-19.
If COVID-19 is spreading in your community, stay safe by taking some simple precautions, such as physical distancing, wearing a mask, keeping rooms well ventilated, avoiding crowds, cleaning your hands, and coughing into a bent elbow or tissue. Check local advice where you live and work. Do it all!
Make wearing a mask a normal part of being around other people. The appropriate use, storage and cleaning or disposal of masks are essential to make them as effective as possible.

Yes, that's the 'advice for the public' (ie. political bargaining chip); what I quoted is from their serious documentation, which is line with their research on masks for flu (which says they're useless).

Bear in mind that no-one actually follows the WHO's guidelines for use and you'll get an idea of the game that's being played here:

I don't think you understand: masks may well be making things worse and leading to child abuse too:

Far better for people to avoid staying around (symptomatic) people rather than imagining the mask is a magic shield and talisman.

As for the 'protecting others' rhetoric, if you're asymptomatic, you're very unlikely to infect anyone and if you're symptomatic, a mask won't stop you from infecting others (and they can't take evasive action as they can't see that you're ill).
