Most of the check in scanning things in venues I managed to get to last year either didn't work or weren't directly monitored by staff anyway.

Presumably the alternative to this is "vaccine passports", which even I as someone who proudly holds an AZ microchip am opposed to.

Once we get back into the pubs we can start plotting the downfall of capitalism and its restrictions anyway.

You own a smartphone, I take it? You think state security agencies don't know where you are at all times?

Next to that, I don't see the landlord of the King's Arms having my mobile number as another step towards 1984, no. And if it bothers you that much, leave your name as "Mickey Mouse" and your number as 07123 456 789. I mean who's going to bother checking?

We already have digital IDs for travel we just don't talk about them. What do you think the RFID in your passport does

As for the boozers it's still part of the Google/Apple anonymous decentralised api isn't it. The difference now is that you all have to do instead of just the head of the table- did you not do the ineffectual track and traces all last summer?

If it starts to go down the weibo/wechat route then it's probably time to duck out tho

"Vaccine" passports are another thing entirely but a lot of this tech is already in place in various incarnations that are probably already linked up

More than 20% of people diagnosed with covid-19 in the UK - over a million people - are still effectively disabled by symptoms five weeks or more later: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-56601911. Remains to be seen how many of those people ever make a full recovery.

You've studiously ignored this aspect of the disease so far, @mixed_biscuits - anything to say about it? I mean some people might consider a death toll of 150,000 in a year to be fairly bad by itself, but it's far from the whole story.

I haven't said anything about the NHS or whether it was any use for people suffering from long covid. So your statement is a total non-sequitur.

Your genius plan was for everyone to catch the disease, remember. About a quarter of the country has been infected, according to recent NHS data. Scale up the figures from what they are already and you're looking at 600,000 deaths and well over 4,000,000 with lasting health problems.

As for vaccine passports, have you been living under a rock?

I've heard of them, but now you're moving the goalposts, yet again. What about "digital ID/social credit"?

On the basis that you're no doubt about to bring up your obviously horseshit "natural immunity" hypothesis, can I remind you that said the UK was "nearly at herd immunity" last summer? When we had a "mere" 300,000 confirmed cases, and a "mere" ~40,000 deaths?

A reminder of how well your predictions tend to turn out:

Prediction: the US won't exceed 200,000 deaths by 2021.

To save myself from getting bored helping you publicly humiliate yourself, I'd like to take a second to help @143 I.Q. Magical Thinker humiliate himself:

I've decided we're at herd immunity now, due to the little-understood-by-midwits phenomenon of T-cell cross-resistance. Only 20% infection rate is required, then you're golden. We have perfectly adequate immune systems that evolved over millions of years, tempered by exposure to coronaviruses over the last 2 decades

It's over, lads. Masks, vaccines, lockdowns. None of it makes the least difference. It's all big pharma pushing for a trillion dollar vaccine payday now.
