What do you mean by take it seriously? We've literally closed down the world economy lol
I was talking specifically about the US numbers and the Trump administration. A lot of the rest of the world and the US states are doing what they can - while Trump is still making aid conditional on who butters him up best.

I dont mean that no-one here is taking it seriously of course.
And world leaders are reacting by escalating measures as Droid said about Ireland.
But in US numbers are behaving in the horrifying manner that everyone knew they would... and nothing happens anew to curtail it. And that is frightening.

I was so impressed by my point above that I thanked myself for it.
Anyway, I wasn't saying that planes were dangerous, just that I'm surprised that anyone is travelling at the moment - imagine the nightmare of trying to get from where you live, to an airport, through customs, on the plane, off at the other side and then to where you want to get. I thought that almost every country had closed its borders (I guess certain people deemed important can still get through) and buses might not be running, police can challenge you on the street and so on. Most of the planes that fly over us are normally Easyjet, maybe it's not them now I dunno, but when I see a plane fly overhead on what's basically a holiday route for normal people it seems like a jarring reminder of the old reality.

Probably the best article I've read about the virus that. Steers clear of the more contentious conspiracy theories. Sticks with the facts. First rate.

could you link up source/sources for this? would be interested to read. or is it in that video somewhere (skimmed through, couldn't find if so)?

feel like my prediction for when Trump would start taking this seriously wound up almost right. yesterday 400+ American deaths.

it does give me a very slight bit of hope that CA, which locked it down sooner than NY, hasn't (yet) seen the same explosive rate of new cases

and that the rest of Italy hasn't been completely overwhelmed like Lombardy and to a lesser extent the rest of the north

any curve flattening at all v welcome at this point

Florida, almost definitely the state most threatened by climate change, has been in virtually complete self-denial about climate change for decades now

state, and many municipal, govts have been at the forefront of that self-denial. should surprise no one that governor etc refused to take it seriously til far too late.

obviously there's also an element of personal responsibility but like most of this mess I blame the authorities first and foremost

most parks here in Chicago were closed by order of the mayor yesterday.

It's scary to see how they can track phones like that.
this is a huge element of how Taiwan (and possibly SK? Taiwan for sure tho) has been able to contain this

aggressive/invasive use of tracking, combined with metadata/Big Data to do contact tracing

only works if you combine it with firm/immediate/coherent lockdown, and being open with the public so they buy into it, of course

btw pursuant to our discussion of stock market the other day, Dow/Nasdaq/S+P all down significantly yesterday, VIX up correspondingly

tho by recent standards, not too much. 2 months ago 4% one-day drop in the Dow would've been catastrophic, now it's basically a shrug.

Didn't the Dow recently have it's biggest one-day fall since 1929?
