A politician with honour and a sense of personal responsibility.

These days that phrase sounds a bit like "a round triangle".

I went to Lewisham Tesco today. You have to queue to get in so when you do get past the bouncers it's really exciting like you've just been let into an exclusive nightclub. There were all these people in DIY hazmat suits like they were going to a post apocalypse themed fancy dress party. Good fun.

Didn't notice shortages of anything. They had everything I wanted except I couldn't find fresh chilli but maybe I didn't look hard enough and ive got scotch bonnets in the freezer anyway.

There's been a bunch of deaths in the Torbay area. It's retirement-ville, so that's inevitable. I haven't gone anywhere near work (which is down that neck of the woods) for a couple of weeks. Some of my colleagues are still going in but I'm like, fuck that. Exeter is fairly normal although apparently the police have been stopping people driving in and out along the A-roads. Not as in, go back where you came from, but just asking what they were up to. So I guess if you said "Day at the beach" they might tell you to turn back.

I'm just enjoying having all this extra time to spend getting to know my little lad, who's just coming up to five months. It's kind of a godsend in that respect.

BTW, word on the street in the NHS (a GP known to me) is that if things get really bad in this country, over-60s who've fallen ill with it won't be put on ventilators.

is it mean/cynical/inappropriate to say the nightly hand clapping is already annoying? sure, a spontaneous outburst is wonderful. having it logged as a reoccurring daily event in your google calendar is a bit much.

It's fine for the hot blooded Latin types. They're passionate and outgoing. Feels a bit flash mobby for us. But if the hospital staff etc like it I can live with it

Well they probably just saw that been the case in Italy for a while and extrapolated.

Just seen the medical officer advice that the lockdown may continue in some form until autumn.

I don't see how that's tenable really. Eventually people will just decide they prefer the risk of infection, either for themselves or others, to indefinite lockdown.

I think there may be a big political and cultural split coming. At the moment it's obscured because there's a unity around the idea we have to do whatever we can to control the virus. But that's a false unity I think. In a few months we're gonna be faced with one group of people who want everyone in their homes until it's over and another group who are willing to take the chances. I think that's going to be a huge mess

I find all this stuff around "this is the new normal" / "we'll not interact socially as we did ever again' terrifying and mad

Without hyperbole, if we're all shut up in our rooms not going outside to stay alive then what's the fucking point really

We re nowhere near that point yet aNd I'm still really enjoying the novelty of it but if it goes on indefinitely of course the whole balance of the equation changes.

The point in what?

The point in continuing to trying to protect ourselves and others. I think there will come a point where people question that

Eg my dad in law has never seen his grandson. He now won't do for at least months. He has cancer and may be never will see him unless he breaks the lockdown over the next few months. I think at some point he will decide it's worth the risk

And cases like that will multiply
