I just cant wait until they open the fucking parks again
That is grim that they've closed parks, has been one of the really good things here to havd them, but at sane time can understand why, cos you see a lit of social distancing flouting

Actually i should apolgise cos i obviously misread this post as talkung about andalucia but you were talking about Vox getting stronger, right? My mistake
Yeah was talking about the party, I can imagine something like this could play into their hands. Friend was saying they are very creepy, doling out anti immigrant wristbands to kids and stuff like that

You do need to be a reasonably clever boy to get into Eton (nowadays top 5% or so) and even cleverer to get into Oxford (which has as many giga-brains as one would expect - not that many); prepping only gets you so far (especially as most of the competition is also prepping). I think he's clearly pretty bright but, yes, he has character deficiencies which make him something less than the oracle of truth (which was my main contention).

I was one of four or five kids who consistently got the highest marks in the year across subjects in my high school, out of a year of about 150 kids, and I'm clearly by no means a genius. The thing is, he is undoubtedly extremely clever in a particular sort of way. Its just that his talents seem to lie overwhelmingly in the areas of self-promotion and buck-passing. He is, in a sense, the ideal politician.

I haven't followed this thread too closely for the last couple of pages and now that I read the last line of your post I realise we may be closer in position that I'd thought.

Right yeah, they are creeps and they've tapped into that fascist tendency thats never really fully gone away since Franco in Andalucia, they're bound to exploit the immigration angle.

I couldnt tell you if they've gained more support over lockdown, its hard to say, but they've certainly been more visible recently so I dunno.

being clever is not the same as being able to succeed at university though

you need to clear a threshold of grades to be accepted, obviously, but attainment of grades is about jumping through hoops and understanding what's expected of you, which is a different type of intelligence I guess

Ironically enough, the distinction between cleverness and intelligence came up in my university interview - I contended that they were equivalent and got in.

Isn't this the exact problem with Johnson... who cares what the situation actually is (the truth some call it) he's always been rewarded like MB for just making an argument - regardless whether or not it's right.

Yeah, the main problem with the way that the UK has dealt with the pandemic is not lockdown or no lockdown, it's that they have never looked as though they knew what they were doing.
From my memory.... first Johnson said it wasn't going to affect us, he said there would be no lockdown and bragged about shaking hands with sufferers, he kept going on telly or whatever saying pubs would stay open and schools would definitely stay open, then they shut pubs but said schools would definitely stay open, then they shut schools, then there was a lockdown, then Johnson almost died, they kept making up lies about PPE and ventilators etc and setting themselves arbitrary targets which they failed to meet and then fudged to look as though they had succeeded, then they demanded Ferguson should be fired for sneaking out, then they refused to fire Cummings for doing much worse, then they kept going on about their track and trace app, now they've abandoned that, they want to re-open and have stopped the scientists who disagree from speaking out. Oh yeahn and they keep saying they've always been guided by the science (among many other lies).
For me it's not any individual policy that I especially disagree with, the main thing is that there has been no consistency, not guiding rule. There is no leadership, no plan, no honesty.

At least Sweden follow a pretty consistent plan, perhaps because the politicians has stepped back and refuses to take any responsibility and leaves it to the technocrats, for better or worse.

Knowing what the fuck you're doing, or even looking as if you do, makes you a faceless technocrat, an arrogant scientist, a rootless cosmopolitan globalist, a liberal Remoaner elite and basically George Soros's bumchum.

Yeah that's a fair point... Sweden picked a plan and stuck to it. Now I agree that a change in information can well change your ideas, but it seems Johnson and co change the "plan" every day depending on what they read in the papers.
