I keep reading that the track and trace thing that doesn't work cost 20 billion pounds, that's £20,000,000,000 - can that be right?

You've got it all wrong. Washing your hands regularly and properly makes you a shit-ninja. Wearing a mask makes you a snot-ninja.

It is surprising just how many people were seemingly walking round with shit all over their hands and sucking their fingers. No wonder we're in a fucking pandemic.

the best are the people who walk around carrying their mask in hand...the same hands that has touched public door knobs, staircase railings, dozens of other potentially infected surfaces. then they put the mask on when they go in a store, effectively transferring all the grubby germs from door to hand to mask to nose/mouth to lungs.

The previous record number of infections in one state in one day was 11,000 in NY in April but today Florida smashed through that with 15,000 plus in 24 hours. Fl Gov De Santis has previously talked about "poorly managed blue states" with high numbers of C19 infected people, in fact it's been an argument I've seen put forward a lot of times from right wing elected officials and commentators, and of course I've seen it repeated all over twitter by morons. Of course it was obvious from the start that the coastal states would bear the brunt of the disease to start with, the central states would be less quickly affected and had time to prepare... it was also equally obvious that - in the main - they weren't preparing properly and that their numbers would soon go sky high.

Yesterday was the first day since March that there were no new Covid-19 deaths in New York City.

Here in Budapest, things 'returned to normal' some time ago. Most shops require masks, though enforcement is variable. Public transport theoretically mandates masks, but again......

There's some tourists from Germany etc, but not really that many and the parts of the city that relied upon them look a bit quiet and desperate.

I haven't been back to the UK for some time. I didn't really have my Summer clothes/shoes and that's been tedious. I actually bought shorts from Aldi.

Technically if I leave and come back then I have to quarantine, pending a negative test. Not quite worth it tbh, even for half-price Nandos.

This seems quite bad. What does he actually do as PM all day apart from make jokes about pants?
Boris Johnson/ has indicated he has not read a government-commissioned report setting out urgent measures needed to prepare for a possible second wave of coronavirus, telling the Commons only that he was “aware” of it.
Johnson was questioned at length by Keir Starmer at prime minister’s questions about the study by 37 senior doctors and scientists, published this week, and the need for an effective test-and-trace system to mitigate any new outbreak.
The 79-page report predicts that in a worst-case scenario, a resurgence of Covid-19 this winter could kill up to 120,000 people, and it says preparation for this in the coming weeks is vital to reduce the death toll.-
Starmer said: “I have to ask, in light of the last few questions: has the prime minister actually read this report, that sets out the reasonable worst-case scenario and tells the government what it needs to do about it in the next six weeks? Has he read it?”
Johnson replied: “I am, of course, aware of the report, and we are, of course, taking every reasonable step to prepare this country for a second spike,” bringing jeers from some opposition MPs.
Could have gone in the Johnson thread or the Tory Bastards one but I plumped for this.

He can't even be bothered to pretend to do his job properly. I know that Brexiters and idiots are gonna vote for him anyway so for that reason he doesn't need to do anything to get re-elected, but doesn't he ever have a little pang of conscience that says "Cripes, maybe I should do a bit of prime ministering every now and again... possibly start with this deadly bally pandemic thing that guy opposite keeps banging on about".
