my reoccurring question, which you never answer: what's the benefit to business or government to have everyone locked down in their homes, restricted from being out shopping and socializing and content, or to have them simply unemployed? why would they want a sharp decline in tax revenue due to reduced sales tax collection? why would they want overburdened hospitals, exhausted doctors and nurses, unnecessary deaths and an increasingly frustrated populous?

Control is an end in itself for entitled psychopaths. Tax is control, but they've found out it's not as effective as physical control. The terrorism schtick wasn't working as well and in fact ran counter to the celebrate diversity control plan, so they had to move over to this. Tax revenue is meaningless in a fiat monetary system where printer go brrrrr. Tax loses value as money is printed like everything else. This is the result of the original moral hazard when govts decided to bail out banks, govts lost their way and legitimacy at that point and so terrible atrocities like lockdown are now acceptable. they see real jobs and economic activity as trivial (even harmful when they account for environmental costs) and they'll do anything to stay in control and believe they have the economic side covered through modern monetarism. Not investment advice.

I'm with you on the original moral hazard of bank bailouts. still don't see how corporations/business tycoons benefit when people are not out buying their goods, due to lockdown or unemployment. maybe amazon grows, but few others would.

Meanwhile court rules Hancock broke the law buying shite during the pandemic but no-one seems to care.
I just hope this is taken as seriously as Cummings's flouting of the lockdown travel rules, Priti Patel's secret trip to Israel, Liam Fox inviting his mate to MoD meetings, Boris Johnson arranging to have a journalist beaten up, the breaking of UK electoral laws by Vote Leave and Leave.EU, the Panama Papers scandal...

Well at least May sacked Patel for, er, committing treason (normally seen as a bit of a bad one I think)... it's fucking Johnson who unbelievably gave her another job. As for that cunt Fox...

They even claim there are hundreds of these secret codes, they give them names such as 'French' 'Cantonese' and 'Farsi'. But they're all just a load of gibberish.

Nah you're right, it does feel as if things are looking a bit more hopeful, locally and globally. They just have to fuck up the next few months.

weird innit. The atmosphere has definitely shifted as the vaccine has been rolled out but acknowledging it feels like a concession to the Tories. I’ve got friends who are refusing to look on the bright side out of sheer bloody-mindedness.

Which, fair enough like, but personally I’m with shiels, I’m tired and I’m ready to believe. Plenty of other reasons to hate the government
