tbh the way the media is portraying the situation in india is very different compared to how they portrayed any of the western countries.

I dunno about The Netherlands but here the gist is that they are being assaulted by a fortified variant from which we will need to protect ourselves with just more of the same.

I feel sorry for India personally. Clearly a horrific situation there, mostly down to Modi bringing that mad festival forward a year & much like the beginnings of our shitstorm the elderly population bearing the brunt. Families living in close quarters like the Italians first time round. Perfect storm.

Problem you have over there is that the caste system will make sure that it becomes a fiscal meritocracy (wrong word) and the semi-private healthcare system has sent oxygen supplies to the moon

As for the British media its all shite anyway isn't it. I'm not worried about a variant, I've already beaten two, but the coverage will hot up on all this as it takes the shite off Boris. Channel 4 coverage has been less sensational but trying to interpret the world through our press will drive you mad

Would have been okay if China had called us up the moment it had reared its head but they left it quite a while.

Also bear in mind that many of the interventions that the public have been led to believe are commonsensically effective have an absent evidence base and would not have been attempted but for political considerations: There is limited data indicating that mass gatherings are associated with influenza transmission. Some evidence suggests that restricting mass gatherings together with otherbehavioural interventions may help to reduce transmission, but this would be insufficient to consider restrictions by default in a pandemic (Department of Health 2011 I).

Also: "Imposition of a 90% restriction on all air travel in such an event would only delay its arrival by one to two weeks, whereas a 99.9% restriction might delay an outbreak in the UK by some two months (SPI-M 2010). "

You don't fact-check what's thrown at you by the media?
I don't pay any serious attention to demonstrably ludicrous conspiracy theories claiming that China exaggerated the scale of the outbreak, when it's a matter of record that the Chinese authorities both delayed telling the outside world about what was going on for several crucial weeks, and threatened doctors with punishment for "spreading panic" when they raised the alarm.

I also tend to view with amused contempt people whose response to everything is "Oh you don't believe the media, do you?", as if they don't rely on "the media" themselves, but somehow have unmediated access to pure objective reality.

Is this part of their genius master plan to fuck all our economies over and thereby, as the world's biggest exporter, fuck themselves over?

My last statement was factual; you work it out.

Maybe check your assumption by looking at comparative economic indicators the past year too.

Your question has been answered over and over again by me and others.

Even without any conspiracy theorising, newspapers go by 'if it bleeds, it leads' and normally misrepresent what they report.

That said, you would think that more viewers would be attracted by a focus on positives from elsewhere eg. the US states that have completely reopened. But no, keep putting people through the ringer.

that's such horseshit, and not an actual answer. yes, tragedy sells papers, but do you seriously believe governments wouldn't have called them out on it? after a year and a half? really? governments are completely at the beck and call of the media?

In fact, the media in the UK are at the beck and call of the government in a crisis as the government has regulatory power over what they publish.

UK will keep selling arms, the media is corrupt too, tell me something new

@mixed_biscuits You've been asked to show some elasticity of thought and endure a few restrictive bumps during a crisis that exhibits consistent exponential growth. If that means you conflate an actual disease with conspiracy and woohoo nonsense, you're not behaving maturely. We can agree on the politicians, your shtick though? Not much room in your positions is there. It's this concretisation of your convictions and thought projection that's sad

so then why hasn't Boris stopped them all from reporting all the tory sleaze accusations?

my question is still unanswered: why would any government, in this case the UK, want this to happen and persist?

You're wrong about the growth.

Because that's not to do with management of the pandemic.

You really have to try to answer these questions yourself as you're not listening to our answers, which have already been provided.
