The bedwetting/brainwashed half of the country and the monomaniacal scientists will be frothing at the bit for more restrictions as the situation worsens over the next month, while the freedom-lovers will have less of a leg to stand on (it will be said): opposition to lockdown will be much feebler as a result.
Anyone with a functioning brain can see that it is the government's antipathy towards lockdowns that is the very reason we keep having them.

Point taken. What I'm doing could really be done in almost any thread, as has been demonstrated. Even as an internal monologue, which is really what it is.

Carry on.
what has happened over the course of this year is unprecedented and we are all full of foreboding and unsubtanitated fears. nobody knows what the future will bring. none of us has any faith in our leaders. none of us is even very sure of whos in control, if anyone is.

it's natural in these circumstances that some of these fears congeal into specific forms, coalesce into narratives and pattern. we might, for instance, start thinking that this is a coordinated global response to climate change, under cover of a pandemic.

The article was in Time.
Regardless of the merits of the article or even what it was about though, what I don't get is that @luka brought it up about an hour ago and now seems to be completely bamboozled by any mention of it. In fact it's so odd it has become minorly fascinating.
Luka, why are you repeatedly complaining of being utterly confused, gawping slack-jawed at the page as though being asked to assimilate a lecture on advanced differential equations, rather than an extremely simple one sentence response to a thing you yourself said a few minutes back?
Your words are helpfully reproduced in all of their glory directly above my mystifying response, precisely to ensure that if you did suffer some kind of memory destroying brain injury in the interim you should still be able to reply.
Is it some sort of joke I don't get?

Johnson has to play the long game cos he's part of a gang that is playing the long game (although not really that long a game as they're rolling out these changes very quickly)
But how about the wider point, which is that absolutely any action the Johnson government takes at this point (having lockdown, getting rid of lockdown, Javid catches covid, Truss doesn't etc) will be taking as compelling evidence for your argument? Does that not make you question your thinking at all?
I guess that not, given that your totally loony tunes predictions being embarrassingly wrong didn't even make you bat an eyelid.

Look at the use of midazolam.

Standard buccal medication in a range of healthcare settings, from end of life care to epilepsy (although cannabis is proven with latter)

What's your point? Oh wait

I think that only goes to show that the government is still taken to be committed to lockdowns as a control measure.

And every single time, the government has locked down weeks too late (meaning the lockdown continues far longer than it would have done otherwise), and ended it too early (which has made another lockdown a few months down the line inevitable).

I don't know how many different ways I can say this, but the fact that we've spent so much of the last year and a bit under restrictions of one sort or another is a direct consequence of the government pandering to right-wing backbenchers who think just like you.

Apparently some bald, angry, red-faced meat-heads have been protesting against the lockdown today. That's the lockdown that ended at midnight. The mind boggles.
