New York is definitely more restrictive, the bit about showing proof of vax before entering a bar or restaurant is law here but not in other states.

and while it's only recommended that people wear a mask on subways, I'd say well over 90% of people wear them. I guess it comes with living in a place full of scaredy cat liberals, certainly not the case in many other cities.

No one gives a fuck here anymore Leo, it's basically normally. The government abdicated all responsibility and left it up to us what to do so most people don't bother with masks now, in trains, pubs, shops etc. In my experience anyway.
its not really possible to give a fuck any more is it. weve been jabbed and if that doesnt work, well what can you do, they gave it their best shot and if it fails it fails. we have to get on with it now really.

I spoke to a doctor over the phone and he said they're seeing a massive spike in cases with people like me ie cold and flu symptoms, but very bad. But not covid.

yeah, I hear you and largely agree, but getting on with it can be done in both responsible and irresponsible ways. we all want to get back to crowded bars, movie theaters, and everything else we did pre-COVID, no question. it's the "well what can you do" part that's the question, because there are some things you can do to minimize risk. you can dine and drink outdoors instead of inside, and do at-home testing. or you can choose not to, which carries a different risk factor.

and while I agree with you, the "if it fails it fails" is a little too blasé to me for a situation with the potential downsides of COVID.

There's an uptick in infections this time of year anyway because of the change of season and kids going back to school. I have had my text from the doctor about getting my flu jab for example.

Two people I work with (remotely) went down with COVID last week and a couple of others have had sniffles of some description.

I've not seen anything to suggest that the vaccine has any bearing on this - most kids are unvaccinated and the usual colds and whatever are spreading around the playgrounds. My niece has nits etc.

There are also more people using public transport as far as I can tell from being out and about. Including the usual disgusting fucks who don't wash their hands, don't cover their mouths when they cough and now of course don't wear masks.

Biscuits will be delighted to hear that some people I know who work in the NHS have got dates for their booster jabs too.
