Again with the throat infection vocal – @CrowleyHead where did this style come from? I recall 6ix9ine squawking/roaring like this.

Like how pitched up the tempo of the beat is here

edit: okay this is straight up black metal style vocals lol

Interesting how certain voices (which can be a put-on Voice) fit with certain musical styles, and how musical styles arguably sometimes develop to fit a vocal style – and vice versa...

OR IS IT

playboi carti adopted the raspy demon vocal in 2020. not that his music sounds that much like any of these guys but seeing someone do it popularly surely helped

do you like any of these songs @Corpsey or are you just checking in on the state of things? I listened to about half of those links and didnt find it bad but didnt really find it compelling either, mainly because I couldnt beleive the rappers

Ive been listening to the first pop smoke mixtape again recently and it is really sad he died because I think he's the only strong vocalist this scene has produced

The raps start fading into the background or should that be the foreground for me at a certain point

I started thinking (or deluding myself) that the frenzied borderline incomprehensible rapping is or has become a feature not a bug

It's definitely grown on me after listening to it for an hour or two. I can see why kids like it cos I can imagine their parents would think it was the worst most antisocial if not actively evil racket imaginable

It certainly seems to be a lot more eccentric than I thought it was.
