i think this music is "good but not interesting" can someone tell me what i'm missing (no more ad hominem about my beloved anime figurine collection please)

I guess I mean that within the context of the whole 'genre' some things are interesting cos they sound very different from other things within it, or they use a quirky or strange sample or a different kick drum pattern or something. Also stuff like the death metal voice that some rappers are using which I've not heard in rap music before (though you hear shouting/screaming in Onyx/MOP/crunk etc.)

Probably I'm ignorant of vast swathes of rap but to me a lot of this stuff doesn't sound like anything I'd heard before. Obviously a lot of it does (including some of my favourite tunes) but there are extremities of tempo and aggression that seem new to me

Watching the videos you get the slightly incongruous combination of angry/homicidal rapping with joyous teenage dancing. I suppose you don't get that from just listening to the music – although they often do those inserts of the whole crew rapping along joyously to some bars.

Here's an example of one where I'm not sure I particularly like it but it just seems like a notably weird beat

after listening to more of the playlist I think I just enjoyed the first song by Kay Flock and then the Sha EK song a couple later and their warm glow spread to the next few songs before fatigue set in. Most of these rappers sound like they are being crowded out by the beat, like difficulty slider is up too high
