the lights get brighter the intensity levels go up it all comes into focus for the first time like a spotlight is shining on them

like you realise you can push it into a higher register and occupy it and get away with it, people will follow you there and like it still, love it more, its an act of daring, a leap of faith

There’s restriction in this too - it’s led by the mad impossible drums, baroque feminine curves of the gliding 808 who’s the real star always, leaving little room for anyone else, all MCs operate in service to that, just decorating it aren’t they?

Yeah smoothness is definitely an issue

A lot of the new York stuff is (by professional standards) horribly mastered

Tasteless in the best way

The genius of UK drill (for me) was the softly spoken, supine flows, something introverted about it, something English

You could be right. I feel like one in the head is more propulsive. It's not a million miles from the jahil beats stuff meek mill used to do.

the colours are brighter, and the sense of compression is thrilling, very tightly congested and comfortable there, no room to breathe

You talk about it in the past tense
I mean when I first heard it really

Not that UK MCs hadn't done that before - Giggs, probably some grime MCs etc. But painting in broad brush strokes the thing about UK drill is it could have been a shit knock off of Chicago/Atlanta stuff but the MC's really leant into that soft spoken thing

Genius isn't the word, I guess it's just the way things happen
