And hence the reality of the external world may be constituted, not by an effort of will as Maine de Biran contended, but on the basis of the world’s perceived existence, the resistance that it offers to our awareness.

The world becomes intelligible to us—that is to say we can discriminate between different aspects of its existence—by virtue of the fact that it resists our activities in various ways.

A lappet is a decorative flap, fold or hanging part of a headdress or garment. Lappets were a feature of women's headgear until the early twentieth century, and are still a feature of religious garments. Examples of lappets are to be found on the papal tiara and on the nemes headdress of the kings of ancient Egypt.

Nearer than chill moonlight, willow clear wet

Quite a rigid form for him. As if he wanted to write a sonnet but couldn’t quite be conventional enough so slung an extra line in. Same with the stress - some are pure iambic pentameter but a number have a dangling extra foot, kind of unsettling, not allowing us to become comfortable, there’s a pleasing sonic quality underlined by lots of assonance and rhyme/half rhyme which I like but I have really no idea what he’s on about in these. They beautiful noise.

A neume is the basic element of Western and Eastern systems of musical notation prior to the invention of five-line staff notation. The earliest neumes were inflective marks that indicated the general shape but not necessarily the exact notes or rhythms to be sung.

Purfling is a narrow decorative edge inlaid into the top plate and often the back plate of a stringed instrument. Inexpensive instruments may have no purfling and instead simulate the appearance with paint. Purfling was originally made of laminated strips of wood, often contrasting in color as a visual accent.

A trivet /ˈtrɪvɪt/ is an object placed between a serving dish or bowl, and a dining table, usually to protect the table from heat damage.

Paclitaxel, sold under the brand name Taxol among others, is a chemotherapy medication used to treat a number of types of cancer. This includes ovarian cancer, esophageal cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, Kaposi's sarcoma, cervical cancer, and pancreatic cancer. It is given by injection into a vein

  1. a compound, originally obtained from the bark of the Pacific yew tree, which has been found to inhibit the growth of certain cancers.

There's definitely nature words in all 3 poems, we can say that much with confidence. And we can say there are also other words.

For instance the first 3 lines have references to supeceded methods of film and photography with celluloid and superseded methods of musical notation with neume and doric rites and ping

Ping measures the round-trip time for messages sent from the originating host to a destination computer that are echoed back to the source. The name comes from active sonar terminology that sends a pulse of sound and listens for the echo to detect objects under water.[1]

Ping operates by sending Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) echo request packets to the target host and waiting for an ICMP echo reply. The program reports errors, packet loss, and a statistical summary of the results, typically including the minimum, maximum, the mean round-trip times, and standard deviation of the mean.

None of which you would expect to encounter on a woodland walk, although you might think about them as you walk somewhere, for one reason or another

There is a fair bit of sonar in Prynne, a message or a feeling-pulse extended outward blindly in the hope of making contact and winning a response.

One facet of the thing is to tune and sensitise the ear 'hear what you see' as heard owls hoot has it. He likes syllables and phonemes. He likes cutting words up. To see the ear in hear.
