I was actually thinking about the discussion the other night re: Michael S. Judge and that you'd have to "invest" in it in order to see whether there was anything to it.

something that keeps you coming back, keeps tugging at you. maybe you put it down for a year or two. come back, try again, still doesn't work, come back a year later.

How do you distinguish that from your brain simply insisting there must be something to it due to the need for patterns?

that's a different thing entirely. i don't mean thinking there is a meaning of some sort embedded in it i mean the sense that this will play an important role in my life.

i think it has to have quality if it's going to do anything for me. i have strange ideas about writing.

if quality = does something for you then it's not strange. what else is quality? canonisation?

Yeah, I guess. Why is Finnegans Wake worth your time, but some random's similarly difficult work isn't? Is there any component beyond taste, or is everything as good or as bad as everything else? Are The Terminator and Terminator 3 equivalent?

The poet works with mental ears. Via this specialized audition thereal-time sounds of speech and vocalized utterance are disintegratedinto sub-lexical acoustic noise by analogy with the striking clatter ofreal work in the material world. Plus also bird-song, weather sounds, and the cognates.

construed and normalized than the ordinarylanguage of every day. The discourses of modernism in Western poet-ics make steeper descents into sub-intelligibility; and in my own caseI am rather frequently accused of having more or less altogether takenleave of discernible sense. In fact I believe this accusation to be moreor less true, and not to me alarmingly so, because what for so long hasseemed the arduous royal road into the domain of poetry ("what doesit mean?") seems less and less an unavoidably necessary preconditionfor successful reading. The task, however, is not to subside into dis-tracted ingenious playfulness with the lexicon and cross-inflectionalidiomatics, but to write and read with maximum focused intelligenceand passion, each of these two aspects bearing so strongly into theother as to fuse them into the enhanced state once in an old-fashionedway termed the province of the imagination.'

He came back to me five years later and said, "you should check out The Cantos Craner, I've just discovered them by myself and they're amazing."

I understand that I hate recommendations too, it's very juvenile. "Read this mate you'll love it" Fuck off no I won't you don't know me. Prick! Must be shite if you like it anyway! That's how the script runs in my head
