The Coming Authoritarianism.

Reminds me of the famous monologue from Network:

"You have meddled with the primal forces of nature, Mr. Beale, and I won't have it! Is that clear?! Do you think you've merely stopped a business deal? That is not the case. The Arabs have taken billions of dollars out of this country, and now they must put it back! It is ebb and flow, tidal gravity! It is ecological balance! You are an old man who thinks in terms of nations and peoples. There are no nations. There are no peoples. There are no Russians. There are no Arabs. There are no third worlds. There is no West. There is only one holistic system of systems, one vast and immane, interwoven, interacting, multi-variate, multi-national dominion of dollars. Petro-dollars, electro-dollars, multi-dollars, reichmarks, rins, rubles, pounds, and shekels. It is the international system of currency which determines the totality of life on this planet. That is the natural order of things today. That is the atomic and sub-atomic and galactic structure of things today! And you have meddled with the primal forces of nature, and You Will Atone!

Am I getting through to you, Mr. Beale? You get up on your little twenty-one inch screen and howl about America and democracy. There is no America. There is no democracy. There is only IBM and ITT and AT&T and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide, and Exxon. Those are the nations of the world today. What do you think the Russians talk about in their councils of state - Karl Marx? They get out their linear programming charts, statistical decision theories, minimax solutions, and compute the price-cost probabilities of their transactions and investments, just like we do. We no longer live in a world of nations and ideologies, Mr. Beale. The world is a college of corporations, inexorably determined by the immutable by-laws of business. The world is a business, Mr. Beale. It has been since man crawled out of the slime. And our children will live, Mr. Beale, to see that perfect world in which there's no war or famine, oppression or brutality. One vast and ecumenical holding company, for whom all men will work to serve a common profit, in which all men will hold a share of stock, all necessities provided, all anxieties tranquilized, all boredom amused. And I have chosen you, Mr. Beale, to preach this evangel."

The other great one along those lines I first saw after @version posted it a while ago was the My Dinner With Andre scene. Lovely bit of writing

i agree, we're being gaslighted.

theyve worked out that the spectacle can be untethered from reality completely.

so that the fact of, say, climate change, is unacknowledged so that contingency plans can be made in private and concrete actions made in secret. so that the debate about appropriate measures doesn't involve the general public because the general public, at this point, has no future.

trump is a psy-op not a president. turn-key fascism is in place and the walls keep closing in.
america is trying to finish what manson started and ignite helter skelter. african americans are being murdered with impunity and muslims are demonised.

google and by extension the american power-structure has kompromat on the entire world.

the infrastructure for cashless societies is already here.

pop music openly proclaims allegiance to the luciferian pseudo-religion and the eye atop the pyramid. youth culture is a corporate product.

top down culture is not culture, it's propaganda. as mcluhan learned from lewis art is a closed and controlled environment. a teaching machine. standardise input to standardise output.

and dance music has gone shit.

you know zhao i wouldnt admit this to anyone else on dissensus but often i really do think they are preparing for something. my tendency is to think of it being a sudden enviromental meltdown or a peak oil thing or soemthing but i guess it could actually just be cos they like fascism.

anyone following the "SpyCops" UnderCover Policing Inquiry? i vaguely know a few people involved, but its a proper mind boggler.

some amazing documents have been disclosed - the tradecraft manual for undercovers, lots of shocking first hand witness accounts, lots and lots of redactions

like lots of issues, SpyCops is one where if you really dared think it through, you'd have known that institutionally sexist undercover cops were shagging around since the 70's, but with the benefit of 2020 hindsight it suddenly looks really bad, and really obviously unacceptable, A few brave peresvering activists have pursued the wrongs for 30 years and forced the justice system to give them a hearing, and are still struggling to get this inquiry to do its job properly - it's clearly 100% biased towards the cops

there's somehing about this moment and how our hindsight is creating retrospective action that is really positive (so many movements are on this current right now) but of course authoritarianism has moved on, this shows what sort of filthy tricks they have been capable of, and in 30 years we'll maybe find out the disgusting ways they are spying on us right now
“ The sheer scale of the spying operation, the volume of people and groups spied upon, the
apparent lack of accountability, the exaggeration of risk, and the obvious imbalance in
targeting by the SDS between the left and the right all suggests, in the submission of the
NPSCPs, that undercover policing during this Tranche was from its inception unjustified and
illegitimate. It was an unlawful enterprise conducted for political purposes and motivated by
the desire to preserve the power of the establishment rather than protect the wider public
interest.”
shocking but not surprising

"This particular committee meeting was going to be an important one, because it would select delegates that could stand for national positions. The two South East London Branch delegates would be potential candidates for those positions. One member of Workers' Fight was elected as a delegate. For the remaining position, Clark stood against Richard Chessum, and he was elected by an additional two votes. This is significant, as we believe that one of those votes was from "Mary's" flatmate, a member of Workers' Fight who, conveniently, Clark had been having a sexual relationship with."

there it is - an undercover police, using sex and emotional subterfuge, to manipulate a person into helping them manoeuvre into a position where it was easier for them to monitor the behaviour of political activists who presented to threat to anything other than establishment values.

Thanks for posting this! I'm reading the tradecraft manual at the moment and it is fascinating ( and frightening ). There are many passages that give an insight into the mind of a SDS officer - prejudices, cynicism, contempt for the uniformed plod...

Plod know sweet FA:
The ridiculous assertion by uniform that all outbreaks of violence on demonstrations are orchestrated by Class War is absolute nonsense. I suppose they feel better to be able to blame a handful of newspaper producing anarchists for their own deficiencies in policing anarchist crowds but the reality is that there is rarely coordination at demonstrations where violence breaks out. The simple truth is that crusty types exploit perceived weakness in police and one or two will start the ball rolling by throwing the first stone or spitting at or kicking an officer.

Tacit implication of police corruption:
It is becoming more and more likely that an SDS operative will face arrest during his or her tour. With the change in public order legislation following the introduction of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 we will all face the real possibility of arrest, from simple fly-posting up to recordable criminal offences such as criminal trespass, assault or burglary. Additionally, the chance of being "fitted up" by unscrupulous officers is a real if rare event.

Activists smell:
Being a little untidy, smelly and rumpled is a natural state for many of the people in our target groups. Close associates may discern the smell of fresh clothing from the suburban washing line, even as distinct from the (less fresh) smell of launderette washing - so if you are wearing the former but purporting to be wearing the latter, potential for suspicion....

That goes double for crusty anarchists:
The crusty lifestyle in particular is really unpleasant. You will be expected to eat food you wouldn't put in your own bin, drink tea from cups which appear to have grown their own beards and sit on furniture which is alive. The squatters are notorious for taking people for all they can get and if you appear to be prepared to help them in a move or to drive them somewhere they will use you until you drop. Worst of all, they smell disgusting in the summer months! However, these people are the ones who will cause the trouble and you need to get reasonably close to them if you are infiltrating the anarchist field.

The sections on "sexual relations" reveal their homophobia and the assumption that all their officers are straight:
While it is not my place to moralise, one should try to avoid the opposite sex for as long as possible.

Straight and irresistible:
The "free love" attitudes of the sixties and seventies have largely disappeared in the minds of the extremists following herpes, hepatitis am AIDS. However, if you are doing your job properly men and women in the field will experience occasional approaches from males and females, straight and gay. Avoiding the straight/gay problem is relatively simple but one should never use the excuse of homosexuality to avoid a heterosexual partner. Not only will your behaviour be wholly inconsistent but you may well find the closet and out homosexuals making a beeline for you

at the hearing they revealed that the cops did in fact infiltrate the National Front in the early 70's, but only because one of the undercovers was sent by the socialist workers sent to spy on the NF in his cover identity :ROFLMAO:

basically they didnt need to spy on the rightists because they all cooperated nicely together, perhaps that's another enquiry
