I think @mixed_biscuits 's implicit point is that the justification of a nearing-totalitarian system, is incidental to the existence of such a system.

The fact that our societies can be systematized, by the combo of public and private policy, to such a nuanced and total degree of control, regardless of whether or not the situation warrants it, is what so many people find appalling, I think.

In other words, it seems that what people find appalling is not that the pandemic doesn't justify such strict control of our behavior, but that our behavior can be controlled so strictly to begin with, no matter the justifying circumstances.

The amount of public backlash each of them is generating is drastically out of line with how serious they are, and if I were given to conspiracy theories I might suspect that one is being promoted intentionally as a smokescreen for the other.

The term 'anti-vaxxer' is already being applied to those who are against vax policy as well as the unjabbed...it's a short step to using the app to tag 'enemies of the state'

imo, biscuits makes it too easy for himself when he says the virus isnt real and so we dont need to take any measures to tackle it.
it turns a complex problem into a simple one.
