Have to say, these vaccine passports/health passes are much more frightening to me atm than the virus. You have to take what you read online and in Twitter threads with a pinch of salt, but I've been seeing more and more about this stuff being pushed by the usual array of murky NGOs and private interests and it doesn't look good.

The fact it forces you to buy a smartphone is bad enough, imo. You won't be able to have something resembling a 'normal' life unless you buy a certain product from one of the various private companies which manufacture them. Not that I'd feel comfortable with a state-backed smartphone either, but still . . .

Let's Talk About Ceps
What are you supposed to do if you don't like the idea of vaccine passports but also think Piers Corbyn is a fucking prick?

Western notions of freedom of movement compared to plenty of varied hellscapes around the world are weighted in one direction

It’s like making peace with the notion that the next 2/3 years will be disruptive, that it can be waited out (hope is in the waiting not anticipating), while remaining vigilant

That’s the best way I can cut through the fog and emotion. Can I wait to go to x? Of course I can. Will vaccine passports feed negative feedback? Of course. As much as I’m with you erring on caution to swallow the permanent line is premature

Surveillance and social control aren’t new, no-one has to buy a smartphone

Also, define normal
I'm not arguing that surveillance and social control are new. I'm saying it looks as though they may be ramped up yet again and with tech that provides greater scope than ever before.

Sure. You don't have to buy a smartphone, but you're risking becoming a second-class citizen without one if the people sounding the alarm on this stuff turn out to be correct. You aren't allowed to work, shop for food and all sorts without proof of vaccination in some areas, so if the system's tweaked so that only digital proof is valid then you're stuffed without one.

How long have you lived under the gaze of cctv?

Not condoning, yet it manifests in multiple realms. Smart phones have always been sketchy to say the least

Ignore Piers Corbyn. That's like asking what you're supposed to do if you don't like the idea of Brexit but also think David Cameron's a fucking prick. There are pricks on every side of every issue.

A long time, but I don't see how that's a rebuttal as I don't like that either. Pointing to the previous and current levels of control as justification for further control isn't particularly convincing. That's like arguing someone monitored at work shouldn't care if their employer starts monitoring them in their home because it already happens at work.

And yeah, smartphones have always been sketchy which is why I've never had one.

This is where expanded testing kits are a possible solution. A mate of a mate’s situation is self employed and has access to twice weekly testing, everyone is working outdoors too so it’s overkill but he was asked to by employees sharing vehicles

Digital proof is usually superseded by good old paper when it comes to bureaucratic red tape

I fully empathise with your concerns, not being dismissive. We have an NHS that needs a massive upgrade and on a day to day work basis that causes as many problems as you could imagine referring clients. Backlog is gigantic. Tory satanic machine pulls wilful ignorance trick

Remain vigilant, only you know when you need to become vigilante
