@Mr. Tea the point is 'died with covid' is enough to make it count as a covid death
This is the same tired crap you were coming out with when the death rate peaked at more than twice the yearly average in the spring of last year. Since then the registered covid death rate has pretty closely matched the excess deaths.

Why not just give this obviously terrible argument up as a bad job?

Have you even read this? It says:

You should also enter any other diseases, injuries, conditions, or events that contributed to the death, but were not part of the direct sequence, in part two of the certificate. The conditions mentioned in part two must be known or suspected to have contributed to the death, not merely be other conditions which were present at the time.

Obviously it's irrelevant if someone had recently had a positive covid test if they died from an acute case of being flattened by a truck, you monstrous ninny.

Moreover, the recorded number of covid deaths is still fairly well matching the excess mortality. In fact the latter is slightly higher, explainable not only by excess strain on the NHS but also by the fact that clearly some people will be dying of covid without having been diagnosed with it, in other words the exact opposite of what you're talking about.

This was true 18 months ago and it's still true now.

Bunch of American music venues are apparently installing Amazon palm scanners now. This stuff's appalling and it's all happening so quickly.

The what now? How does this work?
I'm assuming it's along the same lines as thumb and fingerprint scanning. There isn't much information in the article I read as it was mostly about a bunch of musicians signing a petition against it;

Exactly! I hate these bastards. Data vampires.
It's bad enough when authoritarian governments try this sort of shit, but at least in a democracy the government is in principle answerable to the people, and can in principle be voted out if they piss enough people off, and there is in principle an opposition that could form a new government that could overturn unpopular laws.

But who the fuck voted for Jeff fucking Bezos?

I remember once being asked to scan my thumb-print to leave my jacket in the cloakroom in a club in London. And this must have been a decade ago or so.

I was like, hahaha, you know what, I don't think it's all that hot in here after all.

I'm not convinced a lot of this stuff - digitising everything - is more convenient or reliable anyway. It's a faff, it's intrusive, it's expensive, it creates security issues and you can't trust anyone with this sort of power.
Tell me about it. It's a curse of the age. I assume you know about the Horizon accounting software scandal in post offices? I don't know if going back to physical ledger books is the answer, but at least they didn't lead to hundreds of people being wrongly accused of theft, financially ruined, jailed, driven to suicide etc.

Yeah, that was horrendous. Didn't it take a while for them to admit to it too? They were happy for those people to take the blame, at least for a while, iirc.

I've also seen people complaining about stuff like having to download an app to use the communal washing machine in their apartment building; also having to order things in bars and restauraunts by scanning QR codes off menus rather than just being able to order from a person directly. Completely unnecessary.

It took them fucking years, and the people at the top - the ones who really ought to have been responsible - not only were never prosecuted, but I don't think they even got sacked or ever gave more than a meally-mouthed "regret for the unfortunate situation"-type non-apology. If it hadn't been for Private Eye I don't think it would ever have come to light at all.

The most stupid bit of unnecessary digitization I've seen is having to enter a fucking zillion-character nonsense string of letters into your smartphone in order to get a text saying when the next bus is due. I mean how fucking shit is that? What if you don't own a smartphone, like most old people? What if yours is on the blink or the battery's dead or you've just left it at home? What if you're too drunk and can't really be arsed? Is it too much effort to just print a timetable and stick it on the post, like they've done since buses existed? Who the fuck thought that was a good idea? I want to hurt them.
