Grapejuice has the numerology take: 137 / 731. The beam of pure God light splits into one head, then from there to three bits, then seven more. So it's one three seven going down, seven three one going up.

Newton was asked by the freemasons, when he did the prism of light splitting into the rainbow, to make it seven colours that it splits to, even though one of the blues is not actually visible.

Pink Floyd's dark side of the moon cover, it has six colours aftrrr the prism, cos you couldn't print a seventh tone at that time.

As I said earlier I've got a friend bugging me to read Sefer Yetzirah with him so I probably will at some point. Have you read it? I don't really take naturally to this stuff. I don't like structures and formulas and learning things
No I haven't - kabbalah was never really my thing, Aware of it as a key source text though. I think you'd probably get on alright with it - maybe see it as nuggets of mystical gnosis rather than something to learn.

I listened to a snippet of him discussing Moby-Dick recently where he placed Melville within some sort of kabbalistic tradition,

Bloom wasn't a critical theorist.
Ah so he’s just analyzing how Marxs kind of critique shares aspects of Kabbalah, and presumably how further Marxian thinkers I.e. “the phenomenon of Marxism” may have inherited these aspects, without himself using the mode of critique in question?

But yes my assumption that Bloom employed critical theory himself, could be entirely wrong. I know virtually nothing about Bloom.

He was a literary critic and a sort of archetypal stuffy, old academic wedded to the Western Canon who butted heads with people looking at texts through political lenses.

like being edged [non-consenting]
also more than that literally no one here has any business talking about "kabbalah" if they refuse to do a close reading of a single verse of torah. kabbalah is not a bauble for midwits
