I'm behaving exactly as I usually do except washing my hands a little more and keeping a closer eye on the news.

Making music, mostly. With a lot of Internet in between. My data runs out tonight though. Might not renew it and see how that goes.

Trying to work from home in a 2-room apartment with 2 kids running around. Skype and "Virtual meetings" can f*** off. Girlfriend slowly getting crazy as well.

Going out on the street avoiding other people; hardly anyone in the shops. Buses passing by empty. Feeling there's something bad in the air.

And this is just day 1.

In school with lots of angry teachers trying to work out how we're still here - mass gatherings my arse.

One of my colleagues said "I wonder how many divorces this is going to cause?" over lunch on Friday. It was funny but he's got a point. I guess it's the flipside of the potential birth rate spike in nine month's time that I've seen people joking about, and what to call the kids - "illennials", "quaranteens" (starting in 2033, I guess), that sort of thing.

Definitely on the first one - there've been a few grimly funny Twitter posts on this.

On the latter, not so sure, being pregnant must be terrifying in the current climate. I have a friend who's due to give birth next month, and I don't actually even know what's going through her mind right now. News that coronavirus has been tested in a newborn makes it yet worse...

It's worth trying to keep in the mindset that it's not actually a nuclear winter out there - assuming that you're not in a high-enough risk group that you're being advised to fully self-isolate, there's still quite a lot you can do to avoid going completely crackers. Walking, cycling and going for a run all seem to be fine - crowds are bad but a local park or whatever should be okay. Takeaways and deliveries seem to be considered fairly low risk. Obviously be sensible and responsible, but try to keep a realistic sense of what the risk of transmission in different situations is going to be.

@Slothrop, getting outside to a nice open space has cleared my mind of the murk it was rapidly accumulating last night. Go for a walk, peops. Just saw a small herd of deer lightly toasting themselves in the spring sun, blissfully unaware of what's going on with us humans.

I'm taking advantage of WFH by having a phone call with a colleague while sipping a nice chilled Belgian lambic ale.

Anyone else enjoying the mid-afternoon-boozing aspect of the situation?

I was thinking how annoying and perverse it is for this to happen as spring arrives but actually given that you can go outside it's for the best really. If it was fucking freezing and snowing outside you'd REALLY be stuck inside.

Two days in and I already feel alienated and depressed tbh.

went and shot hoops outdoors for an hour @ 9pm. the weather permitted and it was great. currently on an endorphin buzz. highly recommend some physical exercise if anyone can be arsed.

There's now no excuse for everyone not to write the novel they've "always felt like writing".
