with these very long house tunes, i have always noticed the energy on the dancefloor slowly seeping away as the song progresses. then there's the break and it lifts people up, brings back the energy, some people even cheer and clap, the way some people do when an airplane has landed, but it's a very short moment and the energy quickly seeps away again. it can be a real drag sometimes.

morning factory was the tune that converted me. osunlade - east village summer 2008. said before and i'll say it again, A Love Supreme for the dancefloor.

maybe listening these tracks in isolation doesn't work for some. especially if you grew up on the frantic energy of the nuum. until you've had that moment where it all reveals itself, in the flow, ideally sweaty and mentally enhanced in a low light situ. that's what it took for me. that shared vibe where everyone's on the same freq. house weaving the magic.
Here's ron trent on the inspiration for Morning Factory:

"
When you’re listening to Prescription stuff, the old stuff, it is very soundsystem-oriented. You might not get all the elements of what it’s about, unless you listen to it on a really good soundsystem. We experienced really good soundsystems in our time. A lot of people nowadays, they don’t really get a chance to experience really good, hi-fidelity sound in the club. There’s nothing like it.

What’s happening on a real good system is that a lot of warm feelings happen, a lot of things are evoked. Your body feels good, you feel like you’re being massaged. When you’re feeling like you’re being massaged and you’re hearing quality music – presented to you in a quality way – a next level of euphoria happens."

They say Dionysus is twinned with death. You probably have to identify with death in some deep and final way to get access to these pastures

that sounds like berlin. berlin clubs are lifeless for the most part. conservative. eurocentric. gentrified. whitewashed

DiY had a customised rig called the Black Box (not Ride on Time), ever catch that? Sumptuous, hefty separation, so you never got home with tinnitus. All-enveloping. That's a rig of mythical legend and fully justified quality. Hearing Space Riddims through it the first time was an ineffable experience. Language breaks down - you can't really capture it in words.

I like berlin a lot but when Ive been to clubs there there's been a strange wholesomeness to it. Even places like berghain. Raving as a fortifying leisure activity like jogging or something. Doesn't have the wild messiness that raving in the uk can have.

People talk about Berghain as a dancefloor utopia where anything is permissible but the fact you're expected to look and dress a certain way to get in and all the advice is Don't Speak Foreign Languages In The Queue, it's actually just as conservative as a high street club in the UK but with different codes needed to crack entry.

I can't speak for the whole of the UK but in Glasgow the fact that generally clubs shut at 3am - or 4am on special occasions - means that your window to party is really short and it's more than likely you'll end up at an afters still buzzed than naturally inclined to go home when you start to get tired and the effects wear off.

berghain is the most overrated club in the history of the world. sure it's impressive to be inside the building, but fuck me is it sterile. legowelt puts it well above... techno as high art. people in there dressed like they're going to art galleries. health goths all ketted up. (oh but people walk around naked and fuck in the corners! who gives a fuck??) i'd love to write a story about how the edgy youth of today are all under it's spell. gimme a room full of sweating gurners all mashed and loving it over that conservative mess any day.
