echoing @WashYourHands - Simon DK is the one. the man can blow all yer sashas and dig crapshoot weeds out of the park. I have a sanfran (I think?) tape of his which is just fire, percussive dubby all at once. will see if it's on the cloud.

Going to try and summarise DiY with DK et al in the 23 thread (eventually). Can’t go wrong with the Disco King. He was always the main draw, retired now. Consistently the best House jock from these islands. One or two transitions might’ve warped a bit, but for outright tune selection? Unsurpassed. Sound/Mixcloud have a bunch of really good examples

@luka feel the hate, let it grow, not every track in every mix can be right for folks who are predisposed to disliking this music in the first instance

I mean the cringey real house dialogues are something you come to love as a charming eccentricity. I used to feel the same way as Luke when everything had to be hard militant techno and nothing else!

every good genre has a bit of imperfect cringe. cringeless genres like prog trance are very dull to listen to, just perfect production for kids of entrepreneurs.

There's quite a bit of cringe in 92-93-94 hardcore, that's why we love it! Cringe is the spice of life, within moderation. A bit like cheese.

vocal at 0:50 in this.

ah yes, here it is! I think this is tough enough for @luka even!

Ta duck, on work device and can’t direct dload, if you could keep it alive for a few hours. Think these might be both sides of the tape, can’t listen/multitasking

What’s weird is that there isn’t a single interview with DK. Anywhere. Not in print, nothing at all online. This discreet giant of the dance era, with a library of mixes that contained all the better releases from whichever year’s in question. And the main thing is, for the first however many years he was regularly in nights/lineups that contained hardcore (and later on jungle) jocks who everyone here loves and worships

Bit of a skewed history

Yeah, same for Dave Angel and techno. He was playing with yer grooveriders and rattys well into 94.

Quite a few of the obsession raves had a house room where DK would play I think.

I had (probably don't anymore) a few Pez mixes from '92. But he always seemed to be more proggier and not so much my thing.

i cant imagine having energy levels so low and stable that this would make sense as party music though

This is kind of hard to explain but things are not as fast or as slow as they immediately seem. There is a dialectic in that the more you slow things down the more information you can get them, thereby increasing the speed quotient, perceptually. My next mix is going to illustrate this, I'm just putting off doing it. Deep house and speedcore ultimately operate at the same velocity.

They streamlined their sound a bit when Pezz moved on, probably unintentionally from the volume of records dropping. A convergence of influences from Crass to P Saunders to 4x4

Jack - party going

Pete and Rick - we have achieved lift off

Simon - in orbit, Earth sounds indescribable from here

Sundays could be as diverse a soundscape as any, DiY’s horizontalverse tent was carnage, entertainment and education all rolled into one

Yeah, it's good to have some intransigence, whether that be through punk/industrial or in my case (free jazz/industrial.) otherwise you end up getting too much into shiva shanti - a mistake sadly too many jocks made in this country.
