My problem with that interview is it's the kind of question you could, and perhaps should, dedicate a whole interview to and it's just chucked in as if to hit the right talking points and word count. I didn't get the impression it was asked out of a desire for a serious and substantial response, just for him to acknowledge that yes, the counter-culture was male-centric.

There's also the point previously made that that wasn't the focus of his research or his book.

I thought he handled the question on cultural appropriation pretty well. I sometimes get the feeling some people coming from a progressive angle can end up inadvertently arguing against multiculturalism, so him pushing back and talking about things being allowed to flow freely struck me as on the right track.
