People think they've spotted a weakness and pile on. Feeding frenzy. But it's like, nah, it's not what you think it is lads. Sorry. You got your hopes up for nothing.

baboon, it might be more constructive to quote the specific posts you're talking about. at least from my perspective it seems you're having a bit of a straw man conversation debating truisms that all of us on here accept.

I disagree, needless to say. I'm certainly not the only one here who thought something was amiss, and you can go back through the comments to see that.

There are no truisms here and no common acceptance, that's the point. There are considerable differences of opinion.

Hopes?
Yes cos we all sit around plotting yr downfall.
Just reacting negatively to the attitudes expressed, is all.

Disagreeing is fine. But I think if you read it back when you've cooled off and the conflict adrenaline has stopped pumping you'll see it tells a different story to one you thought you were listening to. I don't blame you cos like I say I squirted ketchup knowing it would be mistaken for blood. I did it for a reason, to illustrate a point. And hopefully that will sink in later and we can all accept that no one was acting in bad faith or out of anything but their best instincts.

Trying to root out and punish homophobia is good and noble and I applaud you for it. It's not a bad instinct. It's cool.

"you've fallen into my trap, just as I expected!"

OR

Reactionary sentiment + inability to admit wrongness = performative oneupmanship

Which one is it, I wonder?

You guys can decide while I make the kids dinner.

This is a funny situation because a small group of people are acting as though a crime has been committed.

But if you asked them what the crime was they wouldn't be able to say. There's a libidinal urge to expose and punish the criminals, to force them to confess their crime and repent. That's the dynamic. But the place where the crime should be is void. No crime occurred. It's very typical of today's Internet and the rush to judgement. The rush to be right and to be seen to be right.

And of course all the details get trampled. The truth is an inconvenience and dialogue is impossible.

Emotional honesty and performative ethics are at odds.

But what is important is the ability to say, this is one of the things I sometimes feel. This is a thought I sometimes think and I know it's not rational. I know it's not right. I know it's foolish. But it occurs. If we can't do that then we lose something very valuable.

There is all sorts of stuff inside us. All sorts of stuff enters us and occupies us and leaves us again. We don't always get to choose. There are intruders as well as visitors.

Oh we just felt nervous cos we were uptight squares in our own eyes I suppose. (A self-fulfilling prophecy kinda thing...)

I wasn't scared of the people there (apart from the attractive women, natch), sorry if I gave that impression.

So when Corpsey feels anxious and giggly with his straight suburban mates in a gay club, well that is how he feels. It's not a choice. It's a condition.

It's a response. And he was honest about that. He felt out of place. He felt weird. He felt awkward. These things, it seems to me, are completely understandable.

And of course we can all go, hahha, that means you're secretly gay Corpsey! That's a funny thing to say and you would need a lot of self control to avoid saying it. And the fear of being secretly gay is of course an integral part of straight identity. That, I think, is a truism.

what are your views on the rothschild family?

I think that the idea that they rule the world has a genuine force to it. There is something compelling about it. It has a dark power, which is why so many people believe it. I don't dispute the pull of it. I think that pull should be resisted but not denied.
