It is more than that, though, which is I think the angle Droid is coming from.

What I reject utterly is droids claim to speak for the so called community or for 'dissensus' as an ideal. He can only speak for himself and his ego.

Without coming on like everyone’s Dad I don’t think there has been a genuine recognition on this thread that people are quite fragile at the moment and may express themselves badly because of that. Or misread the room.

You may imagine that every time you 'tell me off' that everyone sits on the sidelines and cheers you on. However that is not the case. Some people are cheering, some people are horrified. This 'community' is not a monolith.

You and a few others talk about it as if there is one way of seeing things, one homogenised taste. Which is kind of at odds with your worldly schtick

Well it has a history doesn't it? It coalesced around Reynolds, the hardcore continuum, Woebot, k-punk, and most of all, it coalesced around grime. That doesn't mean there is no room for anything else and from what I can tell the deep house thread is flourishing, regardless of whether I or any else disapproves of it!

He is correct though, that it is a community of people with feelings and worries and not simply a dispassionate exchange of points of view?

You keep invoking the Borg and I think Eden is also invoking a Group mind, and I think there is one, and should be one, but also there is a rift within that mind.

There will always be rifts (the clue is in the name). The issue is how we deal with them. Which is an open question of course.

Well I hope so, yes. But he does not speak for it. He is not our priest. He is not policeman or judge. He is just another beak in the feeding trough. Just one more squawking ego.

This rift is baked in thiugh. It's not intellectual. It's fundamental. It's temperamental. It will never go away.

I'm sorry I sometimes wind you up. sometimes I pick the wrong people to wind up.

All good, but as droid says, right now during covid, we need to be a little bit extra aware of how sensitive things are.

Well sure, but this goes both ways doesn't it. I'm not always the villain of the piece. If I get upset there is usually a reason. It's not just a psychotic outburst.

Im not claiming to speak for anybody. This is not about power, or ego, those things are irrelevant to me in this context.

Its also not about attacking you as a person or about different points of view. There's no ideological schism here. This is about addressing certain patterns of behaviour which promote conflict, exclude others and create bad feeling which I feel are damaging to the group as a whole.

Fundamentally, this is about having a baseline of respect for other people and not treating them like shit, and I suggest that the 'ill do whatever I want and never apologise so screw you' attitude which you've previously articulated and reiterated here is in opposition to this basic principle. I have held this viewpoint consistently back to the original Padraig days if you recall.

Take that as you will. I dont think its a radically controversial point of view.

I agree there is no ideological schism. That is why I said it is temperamental. That is why it will never be fixed.

There's too much distance there. We see eye to eye most ideological matters. On lots of things. That isn't the problem.

It's also the reason why a thread called ego was almost certain to expose that divide once again.
