The converse is that attracts people like me who were put off by Corbyn. I'm glad that a lot of more wacky elements that were attracted by Corbyn have left or are leaving the party i.e people who've spent all their lives in various communists. Millionaire Marxist Andrew Murray would be the best known example. I'm delighted they don't have a foothold.

I wouldn't characterise all Corbyn's support as being like that btw.

there are obvious problems in reducing politics and representation to
reasonable people like me left of centre vs reasonable people like me right of centre
though

this is all boring and done to death i know and who cares but you're leaving millions of people outside of the system and you're reducing to representation to people who more or less fit in and can get along in the world as it is. people who think, ah, this is alright, i don't mind it.
i've got a mortgage and a job and a partner and there's things i like on telly.

This is all true, but if your point is that a Labour party led by Starmer is unlikely to appeal to people who feel "left behind" or not represented by mainstream consensus politics, it's only fair to point out that a Labour party led by Corbyn didn't seem to do much for them, either. Or that whatever gain in support was made here was counteracted by losses elsewhere.

The standard answer is that the left-behind and locked-out voted for Brexit, but it should be born in mind that many Leave voters aren't actually poor, or disabled or mentally ill or whatever, but feel left behind by immigration and pronouns and gay people on daytime TV.

it's all the people who joined and felt buoyed by Corbyn and his alignments - they'll have completely switched off.
In particular, it's a lot of young people who have completely switched off from the Labour Party. The pissing around over Brexit under Corbyn started that. And now with Starmer being such a completely useless centrist melt, they're probably gone for good. And all in the hope of a few more votes from some DICKHEADS here in the Red Wall.

thats right one of the things Corbyn did was to create a coalition made up of people who felt underrepresented and unrepresented previously. Trump did the same thing though his coalition was comprised of different groups.

Yeah, maybe from the vantage point of a flat in Greenwich and spending all day on the internet, it is a sustainable fantasy and possibly even looks like the whole of reality. But it is a fantasy.

Craner is right. One of the big claims/lies of Corbyn cheerleaders would they would motivate and win over the 40+ percent of the public who don't vote. It didn't happen in the end. It's been tried in the US much more thoroughly than here and led to really negligible results.

what i am saying is that Corbyn built a coalition of people who felt underrepresented or unrepresented. this is demonstrably true. im not trying to say this is a winning coalition, obviously it isnt becasue he lost

He pulled in a lot of disaffected lefties who'd left under Blair, that's true, and inspired some young people for a short period of time. I don't know if he did much more than that.
