The UK is the worst death toll in Europe and has had possibly the worst response of any country in the world, 10s of thousands of needless deaths, pathetically ineffective, malign or absent leadership and virtually no effective opposition.

Im pretty sure if Corbyn was leader right now and was as invisible and ineffective as Starmer has been during this then he'd be (rightly) getting pilloried for it.

If Corbyn had embarrassed Johnson once, a fraction as much as Starmer has done at the last two PMQs, I would take my (photoshopped by the BBC) hat off to him. He put him on the spot and used detail to show him up as a useless bluffer. You can argue as to whether PMQs matters at all, but they were strong performances. I hope that these will go on to be the foundation of more forceful and enduring attacks, but they're not a bad start.

first as tragedy, then tea talking about the house that corbyn grew up in. Inane, as if anyone cares apart from identity politics weirdos. I wasn't even pro corbyn let alone pro labour (left or otherwise) but low hanging fruit really.

I'm well aware you're not pro-Corbyn. You might get less confused if you didn't assume posts that had nothing to do with you were either aimed at you or about you.

Predictably different responses from Danny and droid.

From what I've seen, Starmer is doing a decent job of showing up the government's dishonesty and ineptitude. I have to wonder what the critics think he should be doing instead of, or as well as, this, given that sod all is really happening in Westminster because no fucker is there, there doesn't have to be a general election for another 4.5 years and the government has an 80 seat majority.

Main beef with Starmer is lack of ruthlessness. You could proportion that to self-control, party discipline, unity over policy profiles, but when the cuntservatives were haemorrhaging peak-Brexit he wasn't as effective as his opposition. Multiple complex causes, correlations & agencies at work. Maybe time will serve him better now he's in post, but Britain mostly serves up self-serving cunts, irrespective of ideological differences or party allegiance.

He seems a pragmatist, but yet another query is if that's enough. The Tory corpus is easily understood. Grant Shapps? Liz conflicted boner Truss (sue me, it's the evil smirk of all things)? Gove? Decapitate the head. Labour should be able to remove the rest post-Covid (whenever that is) & reinvest in the whittled core sectors desperately in need of funding, sectors Labour pins its colours to historically & which offer rare opportunities in effecting positive change post-blue cuntdom. It will take time & it's a tad short sighted to believe otherwise.

Starmer may not be everyone's choice, but what else is there to do right now than spear this blue pestilence to the floor. Only then can the real work of reinforcing the institutions that support & improve our society, in tandem with the environment we leave to our children, truly begin. Unfortunately though, as a friend who is a big Spurs fan has often said, it's the hope that kills you.

Telegraph is today urging Starmer to take on the teaching unions. I think this indicates that they see him as something of a threat, in that he shows up Johnson - badly - and presents as intelligent, competent and dare I say it, Prime Minsterial. So I assume they're hoping he'll lurch to the right and do a Blair in an attempt to win over Middle England. We'll have to see.

Also it will be interesting to see how Lab will position themselves in relation to the Immigration Bill. The new Shadow Home Sec was fairly critical but are Labour going to take anything like a pro-immigration stance?

Also - lying conspiracy mongering POS suspended. This guy has been spreading war crimes denial about Syria for years now. Good work all round:

An American view of the state of Westminster right now: For Boris Johnson, Parliament Is Becoming a House of Horrors

Like I said:

With an 80-seat majority, Mr. Johnson remains the dominant figure on the British political landscape ? a reality that was driven home when he fell ill and analysts had trouble even imagining who might succeed him. Mr. Starmer can hold the government to account for its failures, but he cannot realistically force any significant changes to its policies.

What's KS meant to be doing, according to his critics, that he's not?

I'm already heartily sick of people attacking him - apparently from both left and right - for being SSSIIIRRR Keir Starmer, like they think it means he was born in a castle with a valet to wipe his bum for him.

well get used to it because it’s not going to stop, ever.

Maybe we can examine what it actually means, which is that he voluntarily accepted the award of Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath.

This means his kids can get married at Westminster Abbey and he is up the rankings of precedence (he gets to enter official functions before the likes of us). Amongst other things that I don’t understand. Oh and robes and all that.

This suggests values that are at variance with mine, but perhaps the electorate in the red wall will lap it up.

Members of the Order who have had their status revoked include Mussolini (for declaring war on the UK, not for being a fascist), Mugabe and Ceausescu (the day before he was executed). Which raises the question of who is still in there with Starmer, but it’s a long list and it’s late.

Typical of all liberal scumbags he has voluntarily accepted the title, but prefers people not to use it.

Keir Starmer recently finished his term of office as Director of Public Prosecutions and Head of the Crown Prosecution Service. He was Human Rights Lawyer of the Year in 2001 and QC of the Year in Human Rights and Public Law in 2007. His achievements include successful appeals leading to the abolition of the mandatory death penalty in certain Caribbean countries; persuading the House of Lords that evidence obtained by torture should be inadmissible in British courts; and achieving the CPS’s highest rate of conviction for domestic violence and for those charged with rape or serious sexual offences.

What a scumbag! What a total and utter cunt!

With the legal stuff my main issues are him deciding that nobody be prosecuted for the deaths of Charles de Menezes and initially Ian Tomlinson.

I mean, if you think the death penalty should be reinstated then speak up I guess. Bit weird but should keep the thread moving along.

It’s just weird that Tea wants the death penalty reinstated in the Caribbean but not here? What’s that all about?

No I assume he was being sarcastic when he said Sir Keir was a scumbag cos he approves of all those things KS has done. I haven't spoken to him or anything, that's just how I read it using my knowledge of how people talk these days.
