Let's Talk About Ceps
One confusing thing about politics in the USA is that "blue" is the colour of the Democrats and "red" is the colour of Republicans. The colour semiotics are completely inverted from the rest of the world.
Yeah, this has always confused the hell out of me.

I mean what are people supposed to do Dan?

it's the eternal dilemma, exactly how much of your personal values to compromise in the pursuit of avoiding something even worse

as John makes abundantly clear, there were excellent reasons for the left to mistrust and dislike Atlee

you can disagree with people about what's worth compromising and what isn't, but it's an individual decision

and there are usually compelling reasons to go either way
For sure. I don't disagree with any of that. I'm not trying to defend Atlee, I know very little about him. I was just pointing out there's forever been a tendency on the Left that's uncomfortable with power and regards any of the compromises and moral failures involved with exercising power as huge betrayals. It seems to me that they'd rather stay pure and powerless than exercise power, and potentially compromise themselves. This is Corbyn in a nutshell up to 2015.

as @padraig (u.s.) says not getting 100% behind the leader is kind of the point of the left and politics generally. Otherwise you are in a cult. And everyone draws the line in the sand somewhere slightly different.
Man, that's weird to hear in a discussion about Corbyn. One of the reasons today happened is because many of his supporters regard Corbyn as uniquely good and above any criticism. They believed him and followed his lead on anti-Semitism, and if you start with that assumption, it must all be smears and lies. As a consequence, they went onto gaslight Jews, smear whistleblowers, project the hand of Israel everywhere, and well. Here we are.

So more people should have attacked Corbyn but everyone should get behind the anti-Semite Attlee.

More like people should check themselves if they think anyone in politics is uniquely good.

Indeed and so leaders should not be trusted and must be accountable. And in a healthy political culture they will be attacked by their own side.

The blue meanies, as in the Beatles cartoon movie Yellow Submarine

Corbyn's favorite song is "Imagine".

Which made me like "Imagine" for the first time - it basically is "The Internationale" with piano.
Whereas that was the first moment I thought less of him.
Remember when a bunch of people lost their shit because he went on Mumsnet and said Ulysses was his favourite book?

I wish the Tories' scandals had as much impact as Labour's. They seem to be able to have at least one a day without so much as a scratch.
