I'm not sure this is a bigger problem than the QAnon cult, anti-vaxxers, Holocaust deniers, red-brown tankies, and a hundred other subspecies of unpleasant cranks and extremists.not enough is said about how Facebook helped created radicalised fulminating centrists. Flat earth is marginal but gets all the attention.
I've heard this from a few people i know. a friend the other day, in his mid-50s, was saying how the problem as he sees it now is that where before people might have sounded off in the pub when pissed, then the next day it's generally forgotten about, nowadays cos of facebook and twitter, you are basically constantly publishing so it's that idea of receipts and the writing being available the next day, the day after, screenshotted, shared in contexts other than where it was meant etc.
the demon "like" button, too. spout off in a pub, a couple of people nod, most don't pay attention. but post it on FB and you get affirmation, which feeds the next rant. doesn't even matter if commenters disagree, because you've provoked a reaction which can then be dragged out with replies.
I've seen it characterised as back in the day you'd have the village idiot and everyone knew they were an idiot whereas now all the idiots from all the villages can just meet up online with nobody to rebuff their idiocy.the demon "like" button, too. spout off in a pub, a couple of people nod, most don't pay attention. but post it on FB and you get affirmation, which feeds the next rant. doesn't even matter if commenters disagree, because you've provoked a reaction which can then be dragged out with replies.

Actually, the real problem is people with a neurotic compulsion to disagree with and correct others.and the downright malicious, the bored, the attention seekers and so 4th

This is good - the author is of the Left, and a Corbyn supporter also but it's a thoughtful piece: https://livesrunning.wordpress.com/...e-far-left-could-still-be-part-of-the-answer/
