Personally, I'm glad they're committing to Nato. Would've thought the nukes is tied into union links somehow but I don't know for sure.
Does this surprise anyone at this point?

Sorry, this thread makes me reactionary. We know he's a total centrist, then everyone becomes indignant when he acts absolutely according to type. Does anyone really expect him to say, yeah, let's rip up the nuclear deterrent? Labour is the party of peace?

The whole WELL WOULD YOU PRESS THE BUTTON is one of the most annoying, and trivialising parts of UK political discourse.

i was reading The Times yesterday and they were gloating about Starmer being the only Leader of the Opposition who hasn't worked out you are supposd to actually oppose

Yeah, you can absolutely criticise him for that. Or the focus on supposed "red wall" voters which might prove to be myopic. But not for an exact continuance of the policy the centre of the Labour Party have had forever (nukes & Nato).

Or you can criticise him for it if you think it's a shit idea ofc but I will point out it's absolutely mainstream Labour thinking and no one should be surprised.

i dont like the thread becuase it makes all of us reactionary, in the sense of reacting to one another, hot blood, gorge rising

Yeah I think that's a fair comment. I do find it interesting though - how I position myself and how others do - but I wouldn't be upset to see it sink without trace.

It isn't surprising that he is doing all this flag shagging triangulations.

But it is surprising that this is all he seems to be doing.

There's a pub near my parents' house that puts gigs on and over the last decade or so they have shifted to only putting on tribute acts. All of the bands in that pub are a simulation of other bands. And obviously given the choice people would much rather go and the the band that they are based on.

anyway this is just further alienation of the core Labour base. How could anyone be bothered to go out on a cold winter night and go chap the doors of strangers and make the case for their candidate when what they stand for is so uninspiring and pointless. It's these people - the canvassers, the people with the passion for it - that win elections. That's why the SNP has done so well in Scotland, they've put the work in to campaigning in a way that no other party has here, at least in my lifetime and perspective. If those people aren't going to out and talk about their leader and his candidate choices with fervour and urgency, how can they expect people to be persuaded to vote for them?

Can't really disagree with that. Labour did have a campaigning tradition pre Corbyn though, for the more boring centrist candidates. Not sure how they squared that particular circle.

it's all the people who joined and felt buoyed by Corbyn and his alignments - they'll have completely switched off. Starmer's "under new management" is designed to appeal to voters, but everyone knows that when you get a new manager in a business you inevitably lose staff due to internal conflicts.
