Corpsey

bandz ahoy
I had their new album on in the background and forgot it was on but annoyingly my ears pricked up at one point and i realised I liked a track but it ended literally as I noticed and i couldn't find which one it was. I don't think it's this one but I do like this one.

Spotify found me an old one I like

The mix itself isn't old. They did it for a Warp thing for NTS. It's a mix of early productions.

continuing the 'old autechre' theme, i was reading this old thread: hard 80s hip-hop.... most of the videos are unfortunately dead, but there's a post from an old member, drilla, of a JVC Force tune, which is really good and then he also includes an Autechre (well, Rob Brown, and before Autechre presumably) remix. Also very good, but maybe not as good as the original...

youtube was lacking so I had to put these up myself:

JVC Force - The Force is the Boss

and a wacky but dope remix by one of the guys in Autechre that was on a leaked hip hop mixtape he made for a friend.

I ended up listening to the entire JVC Force album and it's really good as well, slightly dated MCing but excellent production:

So I was looking for more of these old Autechre edits, where they were taking their favourite hip hop and making it more complex.... that mix Version posted is good but I can't find any more of the actual edits.

But I did find this

and listened to about an hour of it the other night.

I like all the long autechre mixes but this is sort of a special one even within that genre, cos it's exclusively 80s hip hop. alot of the others are 12 hours or more and much more varied, but this is interesting cos of the tighter focus.

and i think they're doing a lot of live edits. like the version of 'no sell out' seems to be something they've messed with quite a lot. i might be wrong tho.

the whole thing is great, very hard and crisp, and quite fast. definitely the sweet spot between hip hop and rave.

You can hear in it what Autechre later become, I think. In that focus on the tuff drums, but rearranging them in a very detailed way to create melody. So that's where they put their extra work in, added different instrumentation to complement that arrangement.

here's the tracklist:

I remember downloading a massive electro torrent around 2005 and being super into it had 90% of this mix on it

20 mins in, can tell I'm gonna love this. Kind of a good accompaniment to all the ravey NY stuff I've been getting into.

yeah it's long but all gold so far. i'm about 2 hours in now. the other ones they do are good as well but they throw all the tod dokstader and bernard in, all the musique concrete stuff. and they get a bit rambling. so at 4 hours this is pretty compact for autechre.

it's great stuff though isn't it, the smashing together of a degree of analogue musicianship with the machines that totally changed things.

that mad 'ichiban' tune with the grand old duke of york sample.

dunno where drilla found that JVC Force remix that he uploaded. I don't think any tapes of their pre-autechre actual hip hop edits/remixes have surfaced.

they must have them but perhaps can't release them cos of contractual issues with warp? cos they'd never be able to sell them. or they might not wanna have them out there cos they consider them poor but I think the fans would be into them.

It's annoying this mix isn't it. They dont understand music. Always fiddling. Can't leave anything alone.

Probably the worst mix I've ever heard. Well, maybe not the worst, but definitely up there. Reminds me of those Wizard mixes, Jeff Mills or whether it is. Really irritating

I think it's a ideological opposition to music. They've ruined every record they've played. It's extraordinary. An unparalleled act of Vandalism. The only comparison I can think of is when the taliban missiled those ancient stone Buddhas
