The point about not ascribing beliefs to people and there being a range of different opinions here is correct though. You can't jump from Linebaugh mentioning liking Bernie to "people here like Bernie".

not really, they're just asking you not to ascribe positions to them they don't hold with either no or the flimsiest of evidence

or not to take what they've said and it turn into a blunt statement without nuance or qualification

it's a pretty reasonable request

because, as all political corruption is politicized those attacks on democratic processes have become politicized under the same umbrella
Yeah - if I'm getting this right - this is the big issue. The partisan divide has caused people to defend the utterly indefensible, in terms of morality and of their own professed values, purely to support their own side.

Not, "oh well he made a comment like, we'd really piss libs off by chanting 8 years now so he's trying to perform a fascist overthrow." don't let yourself get trolled; Trump's our most impotent President in ages. Obama was far less constitutional; that's not even controversial. The amount of executive orders? The ongoing foreign conflict? Bush AND Obama are in more dangerous constitutional territory than Trump
Crazy talk. I mean the second he got in Trump starting issuing executive orders at a speed that made Fox ask "What was Obama messing around at?"- which is kinda weird cos they'd been moaning about him doing it for years. Of course Trump's orders normally turned out to be so badly thought out and unconstitutional that they couldn't be made to stick but that's hardly an argument in his favour...

I'm more curious what all the folks here who agree with me about the excesses of current politics, and then stan for some "ideal left," are actually stanning for. Like who is capturing your political imagination? Who or what organization is worth fighting alongside?

there's very little right now in the US, it's very bleak. the lack of organizations with any meaningful power to make demands is why we're having these explosions of protest that then get channeled into removing statues or some other culture war thing. the energy is there but there's no one to harness it.

You could be correct but also politics is for perverts and a strong sign of mental illness

that's what i'm saying though, there's tons of people inspired by him and the like ready to be channeled into a movement but there's no organ with which to do it. that's what the bernie campaign was. an attempt to jumpstart the engine basically.
