in that case there would be no problem with her besides lack of due diligence which unfortunately coincides with her views on trans people

as it's surely incumbent upon anyone choosing a pseudonym to look up the name they're choosing

I think focusing on the name is missing the point, which is her views. the name is addition to that, without it there are still her own words.
that seems fairer - calling herself Robert Galbraith is not really the issue here

Recoiling from trauma hardly seems to set the stage for sober and considerate assertions, no?

Should her words here be treated the same as if they were coming from a hypothetical woman who hadn't experienced sexual abuse?

edit: to be clear, I'm for positively critiquing virtually every assertion made.

I often lose track of just how positive some of the effects can be of raising consciousness about all this.

I'd like to think that many of the stauncher opponents of such trends would also shift their sensibility if the above consequences were made plainly evident to them.

Cause when I try to relate to such opponents, or when I reactively stumble into relating with them, it seems like the opposition to such trends stems from not robustly appreciating the positive consequences, and only noticing how taxing it is to rewire your own ideology. Not to say it isn't taxing, but if such a rewiring enables people to be more open about things, surely its a small price to pay, no?

"Don't bother trying to change their minds, they're old and set in their ways" = "they've lived through major social changes and instead of wanting to help people live better and fairer lives they've chose to double down on reprehensible positions"

If a person is resistant to developing their own sense of empathy and compassion then... what are they doing, really?

The two men who mugged me at knifepoint had a different skin colour to me, I've managed to not turn into a frothing racist

my empathy certainly extends to her as a survivor of sexual abuse

at the same time it's unfortunate that she's associated that trauma with an absurd, retrograde view of trans women as men in disguise

her own trauma doesn't give her a pass for saying things that are harmful to other people now

put it better and more to the point than I did

with the caveat that sexual assault is undoubtedly more traumatic than mugging, not to downplay the latter

The idea that sexual predators and rapists would be stopped because they would be expected to adhere to bathroom signage is almost hilarious in its surreality tbh. "I was going to commit a vicious and brutal attack, but I shouldn't be in this room so I won't"

I think it's absolutely disgusting that The Sun ran an interview with her ex where he gleefully admitted his various crimes against her and I don't think anyone should have to go through that publicly or privately, but that doesn't give her a free pass to carry on with the transphobia

i guess the issue there is ppl taking advantage of certain situations, but anyway why divide men and women's bathrooms at all?

it's not an argument that lends itself to much else

during the debate here over the North Carolina law, trans people would tweet picture of themselves in the "correct" bathroom to show its absurdity

it's the same bullshit as the made up fear of gay teachers recruiting kids in the 70s i.e. Anita Bryant

and every other bullshit retrograde tactic ever

oh we can't have openly gay people in the military because everyone will just be thinking about sex in one way or another

there were similar arguments against ending racial segregation

so basically sexual assault is something that is going happen, it's not anything to do with ppl taking advantage of certain situations

transitioning is enormously difficult, whether or not it involves hormones or surgery

the idea that anyone would do it in order to gain access to women's bathrooms

combined with, as noted, the idea that rapists are going to be stopped by being in the wrong bathroom

is such absurdity that it can only come from people a completely lack of familiarity

it's the level of cluelessness normally reserved for panels of old white guys passing bills about what women can or can't do with their own bodies
