theyre quite different works obviously. veg emp is a throwback in some ways cos its written on weed and you can tell. its basically just me writing down what is going on inside me momet to moment. when you are in that state wheres its all flowy zoe, ('Flowy Zoe is not a mental state it is a state beyond mental') and its like a play is being performed inside you or something these sudden tensile silences, these swooning vales etc

Is flowey zoe from finnegans wake?

I've gotta move out my studio so I can retrieve veg emp and re-read it.

one of the reasons vegetable empire is so great is how good it looks on the page. it just looks sexy and
fashionable and desireable. and its very wise too. and lots of great phrasemaking obviously.

I had one but I can't really use it anymore so we're giving it up this month. I've got a cellar now which can replace it but it's gonna be a while before I get it sorted

i had a mate with a cellar. he liked it. his girlfriend let him potter about down there and smoke weed etc. better than a shed in some ways. warmer and there is a power supply for instance. but you dont get to piss under a tree.

I read an M. John Harrison thing the other day where this guy keeps driving his wife mad by disappearing into their loft and banging and crashing about until one day the whole house falls down and it turns out he's been digging a tunnel out into the sky and for a few moments they can see thousands of these transparent tunnels coming from all the houses across London then they just fade away and the story ends.

I think I'll give this a go soon, since I've been recalibrating my brain recently reading all this Avant Garde stuff (poems for the millennium V1 arrived the other day)

If you reprint anything, let me know

I love that story. I heard him head it on a thing during lockdown. It was such a perfect lockdown moment. Wendy Erskine was doing a close reading of it. Just a perfect moment in a mad deranged time.

youre probably right jenks but vegetable empire is special cos it was the first book to come out of the poetry busking thing. i wrote it that spring it was snowing do you remember that? i had no money cos winter is always brutal then spring got postponed for fucking ages cos it kept snowing. my oven/hob had broken down and i had no hot water. it felt like quite a desperate time in a lot of ways but there's no real sense of that in the book. prediction tablet is much darker but was actually written during one of the best times in my life

As it turned out, I did have to get up at 3 in the morning for a piss and then I couldn't get back to sleep for a while. I feel pretty hanging today and I've got to do it all again cos I'm going to meet the lads lads lads

I might go and order that from a cocktail bar but the sun's out and I will probably have a delicious cold lager instead cos I'm feeling a bit better now.
