New Rap

There's something so disgusting about putting out a dragnet in the polluted oceans of YouTube and pulling out this assortment of flapping, suffocating fish.

Here's a song from New Orleans, here's one from Philedelphia. Here's some dancehall from Narobi. All contextless. All meangingless. I can't get excited about anything that way.

Just clocked they have a writer called Jordan Ryan Pedersen.

This makes me think it would be funny to have a rap reviews column written by a parody of Jordan Peterson who compares drill rappers to lobsters etc.

I think I want music to stop. Nobody allowed to make or consume music.

To be fair you were probably out mcjiggying with ur missus (Esther's) sister Julia in Australia when these kids were born.

You need to find your own roadmap now. You've been paying so much attention to the competition of whats new you can immediately pinpoint its derivative weaknesses. Now is the time for you to age gracefully with the nts curator mentality. Stop supporting West Ham. Once we beat crystal palace they'll be going back down the table. Already the scousers are looking fragile - hassenhutl manager of 2022.

Get back into Kool Keith mate. that was the lesson from my list.

It's not the music I was laughing at, it's the writing. Although I'm sure a lot of the music is excruciating too
I tried but fucking hell how much time does he think people have? Get to the fucking point already.

I don't think I'm ready for curator status I'd rather just call the whole thing off. I was thinking about this last night though. The energy of digging is fundamentally a competitive energy or at least, a way to build status and past a certain age it dissipates.

I wonder how much we'd care about how new stuff sounds if it wasn't for the internet? Hard to say for me cos I was listening to rap for a few years before the internet appeared and it was totally new to me. I wasn't thinking about anything being derivative or futurist or whatever at all. Obviously the nerdier you get about it the more you care about this stuff. But the Internet in particular seems to generate this need for things to be new, have novelty, 'represent' something, to be bloggable, etc.

But it also robs you of any time bound narrative sense. The 'innovations' are distributed in space not time. Cleveland rap Detroit rap Pensacola rap.

It's disgusting. The thought of that list you posted is the most deibidinising thing I can think of. And unclean too. Just a contaminant a pollutant a disease.

I don't disagree with this I'm just wondering what's the problem.
