I was searching for main attrakionz on here after I listened to it cos it seems like some sort of offshoot of cloud rap.

I listened to the Carti album that preceded the latest one recently and I felt like I was stoned. I was really late on listening to that.
I thought Carti was the one with the orangeish artwork you kicked off the Acid Rap thread with, but just checked and that was Yachty. Barty does mention Carti later on though.

Is it an offshoot of cloud rap? I havent been following rap closely, I just dip in now and then. I dont think Ive ever listened to cloud rap

I havent really honed in on the lyrics yet but there was one song where he was going on about growing up and his big brother in quite a pained fashion and it made me think of emo

I guess it's "SoundCloud rap" which seemed vaguely related to cloud rap.

I do feel like there's a kinship in the production that carti album with the main attrakionz production, clams casino etc

Here's a slightly sonically new agey vibe to some rap - cloud rap and it's offshoots. It's lyrically still all money sex sometimes violence orientated but it sounds dreamy, weightless, almost as if the sex and money doesn't really exist anymore.

From the why is everyone listening to ambient thread

I did not but I will, yet another cool looking thread I missed while I was away

Come to think of it, the last rap albums I probably got really into were the young thug slime seasons and the first rae sremmurd album - thats how out of touch I am.

really good. sometimes the best rap doesn't so much sound like it's coming from the future as from a more vivid, brightly colored version of the present. and thats what i get from his albums. both in the production and in the vocals
Yeah my first thought was this very 'now' sounding and very vivid, as you say. Sometimes vivid tips into lurid though and this seems to teeter right on the edge.

Listening again to the new Carti - this is definitely coming across as a sort of US teen rock/emo punk album in trap form. At times I could imagine the vocals over riffing distorted guitars, the beats and synths transposed to trad rock band instrumentation. Then obviously the titles - Rockstar Mode, Punk Monk (and I see his last album has stage diving on the cover)

It's sort of fascinating but also a bit off putting.
