Might be a good accompaniment to the rave era as recapitulation of the 60s thread. To start...

The Doors:

This version has the Doors AND the Beatles:

"That kid's gonna be far out."

is from 48 seconds in to this Woodstock clip:

Somebody in the Suburban Base Boogie Times milieu had a copy of the Woodstock album, or maybe it was someone's dad

cos there's also this

sample at the start is Grace Slick addressing the crowd as Jefferson Airplane come onstage as the sun's coming up

"Alright fans ,you have seen the heavy groups - now you will see morning maniac music.. Believe me yeah.... It's a new dawn"

Thank God they didn't try to do anything with Ten Years After

Void Dweller

even though i didn't realize what song it was without looking, the sitar definitely signifies the 60s

not rave music but one of my very favorite late 80s random rap one-offs is a magnificent flip of Hurdy Gurdy Man

padraig (u.s.)

a monkey that will go ape
really captures what makes random rap great

like the way garage heads freak out over fuzz, Farfisa organs and whatever other sonic markers of that particular thing

no hooks and barely even a chorus, just random, essentially faceless dude spitting endless bars over simple breakbeat and a great sample
