Library Music

The shininess reminds me of Selected Sound sleeves and the sound is similar to this killer library (would love to get my hands on this one but hard to score)

Or this one from Klaus Weiss (who was the drummer from Niagara)... my show tomorrow starts with this one in fact.

And cos that Malcolm Catto thing was so popular they realised there was a small but passionate market of stupid hipsters (like me) who would buy expensive limited edition pseudo-llibraries and so they created the Drumetrics label which was made of ten inch records with coded info in the same style as that one above.

Annoyingly I missed out on the first one on drumetrics which is a kinda gimmicky weird triangle one with only a couple of minutes of music on but which is a bit pricey now unfortunately

I remember him as a poster - a good one too - but didn't know his new alias... will check it out, but obviously everyone should listen first to my radio show today a1400, see events for details...

I'm a fan. For me there's similarities with Library Music & Video Game Music, they both run alongside the traditional music industry, imitating, reflecting and at times predicting it's future, all with this weird mix commerce and creativity.

I used to sweat stuff like this (basically anything fairly open & drum heavy)

These days I listen to more 80s and some 90s stuff, especially Italian labels like NRE. The releases definitely got less 'wild' once the 80s rolled around and the industry as a whole became more streamlined, more professional I guess. Fuck knows who was ever going to actually use the 60s/70s more out-there, abstract stuff, I guess labels realised that eventually.
A friend of mine has recently started composing / recording music for a library production house. Although it's not background themes at all, they ask for basically copycat contemporary music, I guess to be used for stuff like royalty free store music. I was browsing a online library music site recently & notice that Ninja Tunes have a library division, selling their stuff as background music.

Totally agreed about those parallels although I never really thought about it explicitly. Gonna check through the links. Some computer game music probably IS library music in fact, the big ones still exist in one form or another though I don't know many people who are particularly interested in their current output. Possible in about twenty years it will acquire that hipster value with a thin veneer of desirability added by time.

No worries man it comes online later if you do want to check it. I did do more promo cos it was something a bit different I guess. I dunno whether more people listened though.

You need to get that lad who has a big johnson on the case. He sounds like he could sell library music.

I think the next time you have a 30 hour bender chat with him, you've got to probe him a bit more on the other things he considers essential

Some of this stuff is amazing. I can't wait to hear your radio show if it's going to sound like this.
