Tattoos

How many of you lot have got tattoos? I think I am literally the only person I know (at least in my generation or below) who doesn't have any at all... in Portugal it's mad, almost everyone is covered. I've nothing against them, I just feel that they lose a bit of power (in general) when everyone has them, and specific tatts lose a bit of clarity or whatever when there are too many of them... though sometimes a big mess is the way to go.
So, what you got? Any really good ones? Bad ones too I guess. Should I join the pack or keep holding out?

I suppose I should confess to a personal interest here... girlfriend got two last week and I'm about to drive her into town for a third. The first two look really good I gotta admit.

I think I just have a... not a contrarian thing but I think that the more mainstream tatts became the less interesting they became to me... unless you can think of a really interesting, original and striking one. But probably you should be doing that anyway if you're gonna get a permanent decoration. Well, there are two right ways to do it I guess (if you're not in a prison gang), either think about it really carefully and get something original and personal in a precisely chosen place - or just stagger in blind fucking drunk and get "suck this" or something down the side or your dick...

I think some of them are cool, but I doubt I'd ever get one myself. I can't think of anything I'd want permanently inked on my body, plus I cba paying to sit through the discomfort and all the post-op care you have to do with cream and cling film and whatnot seems like a faff.

Ah interesting, I thought most would have them. In my life I'm very much in a minority without. But all that stuff - think it depends, I've learnt this recently cos a lot of them do what they call hand-poke, which I'm guessing is a kinda hipster kick-back against machines, like artisan tattooing. I think it hurts more, especially if it's filled in. But as I said to Liza, if you pay for it to be done you can't moan about the pain - just do it or don't that's it, and fair enough she's been fairly stoical about it, just mentioned a few itches every now and then. Just glad she likes them or else - obviously - I would get the blame somehow.

i can't imagine it not being extremely embarrassing having one of those tattoos that are a fad. like for example the newest trend now is having one of those wingdings tattoo, a little symbol of a hamburger on your arm, or a little symbol of a coffee cup on your leg.

i also can't deal with the fact that the same people who would have thought it to be asocial or aggressive, or working class, are now covered in them.

A load of people had small moustaches tattooed on the side of an index finger at one point...

Actually that one is really cool... I think I might... no I'm joking. Yeah that's it yyaldrin... the co-option by the middle class (which I am for the avoidance of doubt). Sure if you're a sailor or in a gang or in prison or so on... but that meaning has been buried beneath hundreds of other ones that everyone wears. I liked it more when it might piss people off... although hilariously there are a few who think that it means a definite spiral of drug addiction and crime and so forth.

I think if you pay for it you can still moan about the pain. What if you've never had one before? That being said, some people are just embarrassing...

Yeah of course... I'm just trying to pre-empt her... although there is something a bit counter-intuitive about paying for something that will hurt you... I guess the pay-off can be worth it. I can't talk, we had a massage in Russia and I pissed and whined about that woman fucking with my back... at least I've learned my lesson.

That's a machine tattoo thing though... Liza had it by hand and barely complained.... so it worked I assume.

I was working in a small village tourist office once, I only did it for one day, helping out, and the woman who worked there as her everyday job was really nice and friendly, very talkative. By the end of the day, she'd told me how her husband had been having an affair, but they were trying to patch it up, and then someone came in with a tattoo so we were talking about them afterwards, then she just said, 'do you know what, I'm gonna get one'. She got all excited and started texting her friends, messages started buzzing back, there was all this excitement. I mean, it's just something to do I think, like going out or whatever, something to get pumped up about.
