In Ulysses?

Yeah, Ulysses. I just read a page and a half about it yesterday and I'm sure he was saying this, basically he's talking about the Fermi paradox in his own words, I think, but he's saying we are projecting ourselves onto the universe too much, to think there's something else out there, or there's a system.

I'll go back and read it again tonight and if it seems to be saying this, I'll post some more about it.

It's a nice thread but I've been vaccinated against all forms of historicism from reading Popper early on, so I can't play along.

It follows that History is neither to be considered as a formless structure, due exclusively to the achievements of individual agents, nor as possessing reality apart from and independent of them, accomplished behind their backs in spite of them, the work of some superior force,

He's saying that it's wrong to attribute any laws to the progression of history. He traces that line of historicist thinking from Plato to Marx

sounds boring. spoils a lot of fun. surely you dont feel beholden to that boring point of view?

I was looking at a leaf yesterday and I thought it's like a tear drop, or a comma. It's a circle but something else is emerging from it
