i re-read capitalist realism while i was away. read it in an afternoon. raced through it. very enjoyable and i recommend a revisit. one thing that struck me is how there are now huge popular movements with their attendent grifters and conmen, dedicated to addressing one of the big things he was complinaing about. the too wired to concentrate thing. weaning yourself off the dopamine tit. me and corpse talk aboutn this a lot as we are very into the self improvement/self flagellation see-saw.

ive often thought about starting thisw thread and its the fact that im about to have a bracing cold shower that prompted me to do it now. i might have actually done this thread before? corpseys ascetic november when he was doing his 'no fap' challenge i suppose was on the same theme.

too wired to concentrate is why music is obsolete of course. you lot have discussed this a fair bit. i think version did a thread on 'snippets'. how the snippet has replaced the song.

early on in lockdown i started switching off the internet for 6 hours a day. that was a stroke of genius. im at the stage of diminished zeal now though which is why im back in the morass.

Version started one here. I even made wee list

theres definitely a concerted push back against what the technodrome is doing to us. people working out ways to get some control back. no fap, thats a big one. fitness too. discipline. do bicep curls. see the results. realise you can in fact get some traction in this world. do some more. and using the technodrome to help you too. download a meditation app. form a community with like minded self improvers. thats what we are going to do. encourage one another. youre doing good. keep pushing.

i tried meditation every day for a couple of months and i found it rubbish. but that might be becasue i have no aptitude for it. another thing ive been doing which im much more into is this yoga for housewives program on youtube. thats been absolutely great though it can make you feel bad too. just thinking, i'll never be able to do this, i might as well kill myself. im a sub standard specimen.

I meditate every day, usually spend the whole ten minutes thinking about sex or worrying about various things but if I do the breathing right I notice the difference.

Discipline is something I did want to talk to you all about. Do you have it? Where did you get it from? Do you have a morning routine or practice?

im not disciplined but as i said earlier i am on the self-improvement/self-flagellation see-saw. when my pitch of self-digsut reaches a limit i go into discipline mode and i exercise and dry out and think pure thoughts and so on. and when my zeal dwindles away i start drinking beer again and so on.

i do have a morning routine. i never switch the internet on until ive drank my coffee and read my book. meditate too but i think i might give that up. i just dont have any talent for that.

A monk might tell you it's your attachment to this idea of competency that's the issue, not technique, innate ability etc. Don't concern yourself with the right way or any particular state, just return to focus on breath
