yeah those look great actually, would like to get my hands on a few. with quite a lot of stuff, i like the prep and notes as much as the finished thing, usually more

i like westerns in general, love peckinpah. but also all the classics.
westerns for me are like jazz, they don't became interesting until things start getting weird (turn of the 60s for jazz, bit later for Westerns)

with a notable exception in each case, Mingus for jazz and The Searchers for westerns

El Topo, McCabe and Mrs. Miller, Dead Man, the weirder end of Eastwood, the True Grit remake, etc

Yeah I love mccabe. Can't say I enjoyed dead man or true grit remake tho. I like the early peckinpah, ride the high Country. And all the budd boetticher ones

True Grit my least fave on that least, but the Coens are master craftsmen, Jeff Bridges is great, etc

the true Coen revisionist western in a looser sense is No Country For Old Men, of course

Dead Man has been a favorite since I saw it in high school. I'm big on Jarmusch, one of the only arthouse types who really (usually) lives up to it.

good soundtrack too, Neil Young (the only good boomer rock icon) at his most abstract

the only jarmusch i really like is the first one, cant remember what its called, with john lurie and the cousin. find the rest ok but don't really get the fuss tbh

Strangers In Paradise

I'd also ride for Down By Law, Night On Earth, Dead Man, and Ghost Dog

he's kinda lost his fastball since the early 00s. haven't seen anything recent besides the Stooges documentary which was OK.

he's one of the only arthouse directors I can think of who makes movies which are both arthouse and enjoyable cinema without the arthouse.
