Well my grandmother in Anglesey married a guy from Nottingham during the wary and they lived there for some time. I think that was why I chose Nottingham really.

similar - my Mum’s from Llangefni. Small world.

Off topic but Nottingham was a blast for a period, when were you there? My folks moved to Newark mid 80’s. City was big enough to support decent nights out and small enough to navigate by bike and walking. Alan Sillitoe and Ray Gosling still had that aura and Cabaret Voltaire were constantly gigging in town. You could jump on the train and be at the Hacienda in an hour.

Only applied to study there due to DIY’s and EM:T’s presence. The Garage aka Kool Kat had Graeme Park blending all genres. Cookie Club, Skyy and Venus were rocking. Endless Weatherall invasions. The Square Center on Alfred St was a superb hub that attracted masses of talent. Numerous free parties in squats and places like Nine Ladies out under t’stars. Left in 93.

Everything went to shit not long after. The Gunn bothers and their crew expanded, escalating vendettas, that double execution in Skeggy, then visiting friends one year for Goose Fair a young lass got shot walking home in St Ann’s. We’d been on that road minutes earlier, all compounded by horrendously corrupt policing and a council in complete denial. This book does an ok retelling of a city in complete free fall

Anyway, apologies Antipodeans, but you dropped Harold Bishop on the world, not me.

My Nain lived in Bodffordd when she moved back. When she was growing up not totally sure... maybe Rhostrehwfa I dunno. There are a lot of farmers on that side of the family, her sister lives in a four hundred year old farm house called Merioggan, her husband was called Meriogg and I thought that he was related to the house but it was just total coincidence, think the house came through her though I dunno how... probably should really...
Nottingham I was there 95 to 99... before that used to come as a child cos Nain and Grandpa lived there before they went back to Anglesey. Wollaton Park etc was my main memory from that era... then back as a student and taking acid in the same places used to wander round.
But yeah, I digress, sorry.

Book looks great thanks. Also yeah read all those Alan Sillitoe stories while living in the streets he was talking about.

fascinated by the show Nothing To Declare, which basically seems to exist to showcase the racism of Australian border controls.

Obviously not all Australians are mad hate-filled bigots the way the narrative around immigration there would suggest but at the same time, it's fucking weird isn't it, how keen people are to go live in a country that celebrates policies that effectively practice cultural eugenics

Australia seems totally exotic to me, it's a place I've never been and not sure if I'll ever go
